The problem I have though is that they often uproot themselves after having been planted in the gravel. I find they just gradually shift loose and start floating. Does anyone know any neato handy tricks to make plants stay well oted?? No problem. GK> should have told you this is is a small tank..only 1 GK> gal but it does have and air supply. Is it one f those little hexagon tanks from Petsmart? We gave a two gallon to my son this year too. Knowing this, there is one other problem that may affect you. We've had a really tough time keeping his tank at a reasonable temperature. We actually had to get a more powerful bulb to warm the tank, since you can't get a heater in those things. If you a have thermometer in there, let me know what the temp is. If you don't have one, you can usually get a cheap one at the pet store for a couple of bucks. Robby --- Maximus 3.01 * Origin: Red Shift BBS ... Snellville, Ga. ... The deeper you plant them the better of course. It also helps to find a spot where the pull from your filter pumps is not as strong. There is also some stuff you can buy at the store to stick the plant in. It's sort of like aquarium potting soil. But depending on your fish, you may not be able to make them stay. If my cichlids don't like the location of a plant, they pull it out. If my ghourammis don't like the location of a plant, they eat it. Actually, they tend to eat it even if they like the location, but that's another story. Robby --- Maximus 3.01 * Origin: Red Shift BBS ... Snellville, Ga. ... Partial changes (25% per week) are easier on the fish than a complete change of water. --- Spot 1.3a Unregistered * Origin: (1:2613/323.0) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 229 AQUARIUMS Ref: E1H00015 Date: 01/12/97 From: WAYNE YANG Time: 12:03pm \/To: ROBBY DITTMANN (Read 2 times) Subj: New Fish > WY> I've had a freshwater tank for a couple of years now. > WY> It's a 55 gallon column of water, so I was thinking > WY> Angelfish, but I heard that my barbs would chew 'em up. > WY> Is that true? > > It was in my tank. I had this one guy trying to convince me that a fish could stay in a bag for a day. Needless to say, I didn't risk it. My gourami's aren't so bad. They seem pretty mellow most of the time which is good since they're the biggest fish. Kinda keeps the small ones in line without beating on them. My barbs, however, are psychos.
