I live in Alberta, Canada and have 20 and 30 TP>tanks on the go for about 10 years and I have never seen or heard of this TP>stuff you can get to put under tanks to prevent pressure cracks. Mind you TP>have never had the problem. Is this stuff usually only recommended for ar TP>aquariums or is it just not available out here ya think? Yuk Yuk . . . :-) Trevor, what we are referring to is a plain piece of 1/4" styrofoam that is placed under the entire bottom of a tank to prevent the glass from cracking due to the pressure of the water and a possible unstable aquarium stand..which a lot of are that are on the market. When the tank settles, it form fits to the bottom of the tank and tends to get compressed so the tank bottom doesn't bow and also level the tank. Some people like my self use it and it is helpful as a preventitive maintence if you either have a cheap stand or the floor where the stand is placed is not level. I own a 55g tank and the one piece of styrofoam that I have under my tank only cost a dollar. Now you need to know that if you lift or move the tank, a new piece will be needed. Try it if you like, it is a suggestion not a requirement as some in here will lead you to believe. :) Ron * OLX 2.1 TD * Tagline? I was simply offering the solution that has worked for me on several occasions. I again state that I've never had this problem in one of my OWN tanks. (I maintain several for private parties) There are certain situations where a lower dosage (which is effective against the slime) is necessary. In the case where I used it, it was in a reef tank. In the case of a tank with no perimeter protection (plastic, etc) I would definetely suggest some sort of "pad" for the tank to sit on. Stryo still wouldn't be my choice (maybe some planed oak strips?), but it would do the job I suppose. At least when it first starts. Yes!! But it's even worse with rain. Since it's easiest to collect rain from dounspouts, you've got all that crud on the roof too! SF> If so, when a person is SF> collecting rain water....do they wait a while so that the rain can SF> "knock" the pollutants out of the air and then start collecting the SF> "clean" water? Just curious. Well, I suppose that the pollutants in the air could be a problem in some areas and waiting will help. But regardless of the air pollution level, you need to wait when collecting rain to make sure the roof and gutters are flushed well. It's also handy to have a piece of cheescloth and a heavy duty rubber band to attach to the end of the downspout. --- Blue Wave/QWK v2.12 * Origin: The STL CATII BBS (314-351-7150) (314-353-9441) (1:100/757) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 229 AQUARIUMS Ref: DFJ00007 Date: 11/06/96 From: CHRIS DOWNS Time: 03:15pm \/To: SAM MCDANIEL (Read 2 times) Subj: Re: Aquarium stand SM> #5 properly sized the glass will withstand the pressure exerted SM> without foam. It will soon be dropping down as low as -30 deg out there and the conditions of their deprived hospitals would make most of s sick, this is due to the current state of their economy after the revolt of 1990 I am desperately looking for single cotton sheets, gowns, pillow slips, pillows blankets and ANYTHING else that would help. There is a time slot coming up very soon in which to take the cars out there to deliver the supplies if we miss t it will be quite impassable (possibly) so the faster this is done the better So it would be nice to see our e-mail conference system at it's best and seeing everyone helping no matter how little it could mean the difference between LIFE AND DEATH for a lot of people, please think of others at this time of year as it is unlikely that we in our comfort would freeze to death in hospital or go without medicine or food in kings college hospital if you know what I mean.
