I would like to see users, that use off line mail readers, to stop using all those cute tag lines and make one that does have city, state country etc. But no rules say anyone has to list their location. It does make sense though, if a user is selling fish etc or posting about a Aquarium groups meeting etc, post their location. This could limit several, 'Where are you located' type messages. I send a, I'm selling albino oscar fry message. A user in New York sends, I'd like some, where are you located. I send, I'm located in california. User in NY sends, sorry but I'm in New York. I send, Sorry but that's too far. etc. 4 or more un-necessary just between me and one other user. --- ViaMAIL!/WC4 v1.00q * Origin: Xanth BBS - Wildcat - Sacramento CA 916-264-1826 (1:203/996) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 229 AQUARIUMS Ref: DEM00018 Date: 10/17/96 From: JAMES MCGRAIL Time: 03:12pm \/To: JOHN MORSE (Read 4 times) Subj: Chinese Algae Eaters. Most good Aquarium Stores will tell you that Algae Eat JM> suck the slim that protects the fish from getting sick! I have been told o JM> this by more then one person and this is why I use Pleco's in my tanks! You have to be careful, with some plecos also. I've had a couple, that insisted on hounding some large fish, trying to lunch on their slime. One of them did much damage to my 22 inch rubber eel, before I noticed it, the eel died a week later. The pleco rasped a hole almost through it's skin. A week later the wound ruptured into it's stomach. I've had many plecos over the years and only a few did this and most stopped after a while. --- ViaMAIL!/WC4 v1.00q * Origin: Xanth BBS - Wildcat - Sacramento CA 916-264-1826 (1:203/996) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 229 AQUARIUMS Ref: DEM00019 Date: 10/17/96 From: JAMES MCGRAIL Time: 03:16pm \/To: JOHN MCALPIN (Read 4 times) Subj: cleaning old tank JM> What about the rocks and corrals? EC> What do the newborns eat? EC> How can I take care of the newborn? Feed them fine flake food, baby brine (live or frozen). As the grow you can switch to a little courser flakes and other frozen foods. You can use a good quality flake food and grind it in a bowl etc, with a spoon etc, to the proper size for the babies and adjust the size as they grow. Give them plenty of room, clean water and feed them about 6 times a day, if you can, just enough that all is eaten. This will usually insure babies that grow to a large size and not get stunted. --- ViaMAIL!/WC4 v1.00q * Origin: Xanth BBS - Wildcat - Sacramento CA 916-264-1826 (1:203/996) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 229 AQUARIUMS Ref: DEM00021 Date: 10/17/96 From: JAMES MCGRAIL Time: 02:19pm \/To: PATRICK LUTZ (Read 4 times) Subj: Re^2: Hello ? I do understand that in countries that are fully metric, that aquariums are built to metric specs but many still keep the top of the tank, the same size as the american tanks, so they can use american made hoods etc and/or that the hoods etc that they make, will still fir american tanks. That way there isn't 2 standards. Among others I keep; Oscars - Astonotus ocellatus Convicts - Cichlasoma nigrofasciatum Fire mouths - Cichlasoma meeki Severums - Cichlasoma severum Earth eaters - Geophagus jurupari (also known as Horse face) Pike cichlids - Crenicichia saxatilis Jack dempsey - Cichlasoma octofasciatum Blue channel Catfish, Black catfish (from Thailand) Latin names not known and regular and albino plecos - Hypostomus plecostomus Red hi-fin pleco - Cochiodon hondae Jim --- ViaMAIL!/WC4 v1.00q * Origin: Xanth BBS - Wildcat - Sacramento CA 916-264-1826 (1:203/996) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 229 AQUARIUMS Ref: DEM00022 Date: 10/17/96 From: JAMES MCGRAIL Time: 01:53pm \/To: ADRIAN WORLEY (Read 4 times) Subj: PH AW> JM> Unless you have P scalare altum, angles, they like a pH of 5.9. The only pictures, I have of them, show them looking like the common scalare, silver with the black stripes. The only book, I have, that shows them, is the Dr. Axelrod's Mini-Atlas of Freshwater Aquarium Fishes Mini-Edition dated 1995. This book is distributed in England by T.F.H.
