By 2 years Mine was appx 5-6 inchs long. About 5 inches (approx) in a 10 gal. tank. The exact age is unknown as we inherrited the tank. DL> Of course I kept it in a 60 gal and fed it tablets. Oh yes.... :-) The tablets. We have fun with those. We drop the tablet in first, so that he/she notices it and wanders down. Then feed the other goldfish. If the goldfish are fed first, Ple*co gets interested in the flakes also. :-) DL> Could be poor stock, caught some disease, or was starving. The starving and/or poor stock seems to be the cause judging by his message. No mention of tablets, or anything else for that matter. It must have cleaned the tank then ran out of "food". However, 3 weeks does seem awlfully short. :) DL> Got to suppliment a pleco with food, they cannot live on algae in a DL> tank, in wild theres algae all over, just moves on as a areas cleaned DL> up (ate up), not so in a tank. It could have been a combination of factors. There was no mention of feeding of tablets to supplement the lack of algie, once the tank was cleaned, so feeding plus bad stock could bave been a double whammy on the Ple*co. There one type is JC> small, light orange and black JC> stripes, The other is a greeney type colour, with JC> a black top fin and with JC> an orange edge to it. These sound like morphs of Barbus tetrazona, the Sumatran Tiger Barb. The original fish is an orangey/pink background with four broad black vertical bands. By selectively breeding "defects", the "green" variety has been established. By defect, I mean the odd black scale which appears between the normal bands. In either case, guanine crystals deposited around the edges of the scales produce the iridescent green colouration. The fish is an active shoaling species, and, although usually reported as a perfect community fish, can be a bit aggressive if kept in small numbers/pairs. I usually keep a minimum of six in a tank, and then, never mix them with slow moving/trailing fin types. They aren't evil as such, they just tend to be a bit boisturous, (see similar comments concerning zebra danios). As for sexing, apart from the usual egg layers differences, the males are noticeably brighter, and when in ideal condition, show a red stripe/patch, from the tip of the nose to about the start of the dorsal fin. JC> I also brought some Angel fish from her (the JC> marbled type), And she said JC> she couldnt sex those either. There are others in here that know a lot more about angels than I do, so I won't comment!
