Absolutely, positively NOT... It'll take 6 mos. to a year but you'll eventually lose everything in the tank *Unless* your tank has nothing living in it :> ... Other tadpoles are also poisonous as there defence mechanism. It also could be mosquito larvae which apparently gets under the scales. Also if you have to much plant in the pond I've been told that if it blocks the top of the water less air gets through. Just an idea. Good luck with it. Those symptoms go with cholorene poisoning in the water... Since you didnt mention when you moved him or if he was placed into a new tank, we cant be sure.. some fish are more sensitive to it than others and show symptoms first. The cholorene will disipate totally in a few days or sooner without chemicals. Another possible cause is, rapid change in pH. Have you checked your water chem? > Treatments so far have been: 1.) You didnt say how large the fish are? The oscar will grow to large size in a few years so be prepared to upgrade a small tank to a minimum of 50-75 gallon. Alot of tank maint. is required and feeding live goldfish gets expensive... But there isn't really a big market concerning marine plants. Plus, to I would probably have to buy another light fixture just for the algae and that would be costly. :( I'm almost tempted to break down my saltwater setup and convert it into a freshwater! But, I'm determined to conquer the marine aspect to this hobby! Wish me luck! -Bo --- * Origin: The Aquarium BBS - Fishies Unite! RB> Would anyone recommend this for long term marine fishkeeping? I for one wouldn't recommend using an undergravel filter for short term marine fishkeeping, let alone long term. The reason for this is simple - Successful long term marine fishkeeping requires that one maintain MUCH better water quality than an equivalent freshwater tank. Since an undergravel filter functions as both a mechanical and biological filter, a LOT of detritus gets pulled into the bed where it breaks down iologically. When this breaks down, it adds a LOT of waste products to the water, including (but not limited to) nitrates. To make matters worse, the detritus can get packed and create anerobic pockets which generate Hydrogen Sulfide. It doesn't take much of that (<1 ppm) to totally kill off a tank. As an alternative, I would recommend looking into the Jaubert/Live Sand system. It's even simpler than using an undergravel filter and (if you keep the total bioload down) works very well. ...
