You might try some inverts, they're great for > starting - what > kind of damsels? some types get really nasty, and will beat > up the new > comers, when you try to bring them in later on. Inverts for starting? From what I've heard, they're delicate. Well, maybe a crab or crustaceon but, I've had four damsels die on me during my first two weeks of the saltwater adventure. Now, I'm reduced to about four blue damsels and four other damsels that are brown/white with a whitish area near their dorsal fins. (They change color with their moods). That setup you were talking about with the hole drilled in the side of your tank and the 30 gallon "water treatment" tank sounds nice. But as I was planning it out I found that I don't really have the room to install one. Also I kinda partial to my tanks and if I drill a hole into the side of one, then that limits me as to how I position my tank. I think I'm gonna try building a variant of the "water treatment" tank that you proposed that hangs on the back of my 100 gallon saltwater tank. It'll sorta be like a fluidized river bed. I'm gonna have a trench with some mighty fine silica sand and run a current under and over it so it simulates a river of sorts. I'll be taking water from the first 2 inches of the surface so the bacteria should be happy. I'm sort of toying with the idea of using my canister water out-take hose to create the currents in the "river bed". Do you think it's feasible? -bo /s --- * Origin: The Aquarium BBS - Fishies Unite! Thanx, Dave I think so, but just getting acclimated to the normal activity in/out of the tank should settle him down, too. Mine tears up anything I put in the tank and is constantly placing the rocks, etc where he thinks they should be. He digs a bare spot through the gravel at the rear center of the tank and I've given up trying to keep things where I want them. I would assume that as water evaporates from a saltwater tank the salinity of the water should go up. Yes? Well, for the past two weeks I've noticed that as my water level is going down, the salinity is also going down! I've probably dumped so much salt in there that the DEAD SEA probably has a run for it's money! The temp of the water is approximately 80 degrees Farenheit and my tank is still in the process of cycling though I added some Nitromax to speed the process up. Is this loss of saline concentration typical? --- * Origin: The Aquarium BBS - Fishies Unite!
