I have not really wanted to get into security, but the application I have been working on (under contract) for about a year has just been licenced by another organisation, so in order to protect the program from modification I am forced to implement security. There's a hole in Access 2.0 security where any user can break security in a matter of minutes. It's been posted in the Internet in the comp.databases.ms-access newsgroup for several months. Do a www.dejanews.com search and you should find it. This has been fixed in Access 7.0 An obscurer hole has not been fixed in Access 7 and the only hint that I'm aware of is to remove all permissions for user Engine. That sort of thing isn't an issue in MJ> Access. In DbaseII & III you could use the command 'SET CARRY ON' (I pretty sure that's what it was called) to automatically copy the information from the last record into a new record. This is different to a standard default value as it can change from record to record. As an example let's say you are creating a parts master and one of the fields like Product Group changes periodically, rather than always having to enter or retype you only need to do it when it changes. Does this explain it any better?
