Several people are looking for the person mentioned in this post. ********************************************************************** Looking for information from anyone who has had recent dealings with a Brian Phillips operating out of Champlain NY. He has advertised on several lists, birds for sale, CAG's, Ringnecks, and Macaws. Many people have purchased birds from him recently, they have sent money and not recieved their birds. The FBI has been notified and an investigation is in progress. If anyone has purchased or paid down payments on Birds to Mr. Phillips, please contact Cindy Frey at email address, thewindwalker@juno.com, or phone (815) 998-2575 * SLMR 2.1a * Be vewy, vewy quiet, I'm hunting tagwines! --- Silver Xpress Mail System * Origin: bloom county bbs * Parrots HQ * (313)582-0888 (1:2410/400) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 225 PARROTS Ref: E5P00000 Date: 05/19/97 From: KATHY JOHNSON Time: 08:51am \/To: ALL (Read 0 times) Subj: gotta rant for a minute Sorry for the venting, but I have to complain to SOMEBODY! I met THE biggest jerk yesterday. I was at a walkathon for a local humane society. It was very windy, and cold (about 55F), but sunny. There was a woman there, wearing shorts and a t-shirt, with a large mini-macaw on her shoulder (I can't remember the species, but it was the largest mini-macaw, the one that's all green). The bird was leashed to her by a dog leash clipped through its split-ring import band! The leash clip was so big, it caused the band to tighten around the bird's ankle. The bird looked very uncomfortable. A friend went over to talk to her, and asked if the bird wasn't cold. The woman said "As long as they keep eating, they stay warm. I just gave her part of my chocolate chip cookie--that'll keep her warm for hours!". The friend reported this to me, and I screamed. Another friend and I then ventured over to talk to this woman. The woman informed us that the bird was fine (even though she was all fluffed up and miserable looking). I asked the bird's age, and was told she was 2 years old (but the quarantine band plainly told me that the bird is at LEAST 4, since the US hasn't allowed importation since 1993). We warned her about the dangers of using leg tethers, and she laughed, saying "It hasn't happened to me yet!". She then informed us that she's a breeder with 19 birds, and she knows everything she needs to know to take proper care of her birds. At this point, I felt it was best to take my leave before I threw her in the nearby river... If anybody knows a woman named Debra Dougherty (spelling?) from Michigan, please slap her silly for me, because I couldn't, and she really needs it. --Kathy * SLMR 2.1a * A KGB keyboard has no key! --- Silver Xpress Mail System * Origin: bloom county bbs * Parrots HQ * (313)582-0888 (1:2410/400) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 225 PARROTS Ref: E5P00001 Date: 05/17/97 From: FRAN WARWICK Time: 02:24pm \/To: GEORGE DESTAFFAN (Read 0 times) Subj: email Hey George, GD> Long time no talk. I've read a lot about them and TG> they sound like they could be neat to have. She is an absolute darling, when she isn't attempting to chew off a part of my anatomy! She's at the chewing age, so when she gets too nippy, I just put her back in her cage for a while. She's a veritable clown! She will hang upside down on her perch, then try a few sommersaults! She loves being in a vertical position. TG> How did your hand fed finches turn out? They seem to have a TG> different nature so I wandered if they could ever really be tame. Well, what happenned was that when I banded them, the parents started ignoring them. Worried that they would starve, I devellopped my own hand-feeding formula (mostly ground millet, chopped-up broccoli, and egg) and started feeding them this way. I checked on them frequently, and when their crop was empty, I would feed them again. One chick really warmed up to me, two were indifferent, and the fourth was downright wild. I tried putting the chicks back in with their parents a couple of days later, and for some reason, they were accepted! So I left it to the parents to finish the job. I'm sure that if I had continued to feed them though, that the friendly little one would have tamed right up, but that wild one never would have. Different personnalities, I guess... :) TG> We should be getting the avairy soon. If I keep going this way, I think I'm going to need some sort of aviary too! But I'm kind of reluctant to let my lovebird socialize with the cockatiel and budgie, since I don't want her to loose interrest in human companionship. I hope the new aviary goes well for you! Had you ever thought of desinging your own? Take a few ideas from the differnet manufacturers, combine them for the features that you like... Chris --- timEd 1.10 * Origin: Acoustic Plains BBS.
