I'm glad you like Parrots and find it useful! Hey--tell your friends in RPB to come join us! I bet they'd like the change of pace from flame-war city (or at lest it was like that the last time I was out there a couple months ago). --Kathy Its not as bad now. The wars I saw in there were over two people with differing opinions on titles. One self appointed due to personal experiences and the other earned thru school. Personally I put my trust in personal experiences. Book learning is great and definately essential but nothing can replace the practical experience. I'll leave some mail advertising fido though for sure. BTW fido has been known to be a flame circus in some areas as well. --- ViaMAIL!/WC4 v1.20 * Origin: Cheyenne BBS * Havertown, PA * (610) 789-6683 v.everyth 1:273/40) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 225 PARROTS Ref: E1R00002 Date: 01/21/97 From: BOB BRINSFIELD Time: 12:25am \/To: KLAUS BOSCH (Read 1 times) Subj: Internet Hi all, is this mail in Parrots forwarded to the Internet? ... It's not a good idea to gate echoes to/from the Internet for one main reason--sysops have to PAY to transmit their mail, and the increase in traffic could become very expensive, thus causing more sysops to drop the echo because it's a nuisance expense. There are other reasons, also, why it's not gated-- if advertisers start "spamming" (sending large amounts) of advertising through the internet, it could crash small bbses who can't take that much incoming mail at one time. it could lead to uncontrolled language, ads, and unpleasantness on Fidonet, coming from people who can't be cut off through the Internet (the moderator's job would be next to impossible to perform properly). Thus, the Parrot Echo as you and I know it will never appear on the Internet. I *might* someday start a private Parrot-echo-users-only mailing list on the Internet for echo folks. If I ever did so (and it is not in the forseeable future due to lack of my time), it would be *heavily* moderated to prevent any problems. --Kathy moderator, Parrot Echo * SLMR 2.1a * I'd love to, but I'm going through cheesecake withdrawal. --- Silver Xpress Mail System * Origin: bloom county bbs * Parrots HQ * (313)582-0888 (1:2410/400) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 225 PARROTS Ref: E1R00004 Date: 01/21/97 From: KATHY JOHNSON Time: 09:34am \/To: FRAN WARWICK (Read 1 times) Subj: Amazons FW>Laura, in Michigan, has some of the lesser kept Amazons...I believe. Bye For Now, Derek Hi Derek, I currently have a Sun Conure but have been reading this echo off and on for a number of years now. Parakeets or budgies in some circles in this country. Yes they are permitted in this echo. I've seen conversations about doves in here. I think just about anything with wings is fair game. Many years ago when I was a young lad my parents used to have them all the time. When I got a bit older it was cockatiels. My oldest cockatiel just passed on a week ago after 17 years of being amused by his antics. I really miss the little guy. The Sun Conure thankfully is really trying to fill the void. --- ViaMAIL!/WC4 v1.20 * Origin: Cheyenne BBS * Havertown, PA * (610) 789-6683 v.everyth 1:273/40) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 225 PARROTS Ref: E1S00001 Date: 01/21/97 From: KLAUS BOSCH Time: 07:00pm \/To: KATHY JOHNSON (Read 1 times) Subj: Echo Rules--please CHANGE Hallo KATHY! I decided a while back that the internet was not worth the money. Who wants to pay for access just to read a bunch of stupid flaming and spamming? There's too much chaff and not enough wheat to make it worthwhile, in my opinion. On another note, I have had to push back my plans on getting a parrot. I discovered my roof was in dire need of repair and the money I had been saving up for the parrot has to go towards fixing the roof.
