It just means he loves you! My male African Grey does this with both me and my husband (who thinks it's disgusting and withdraws when he sees it coming.) I let him "feed" me, and give him a treat back (from my hand though). My female cockatiel used to feed me too. You can usually tell when it's coming by their behavior. I think you'll just have to find one that you can feel comfortable with, and a bonding before you buy one. Mines a real weetheart, and does talk a bit, but not much. When they would do that, I would clap my hands and say "GET OUT, GO N, GET OUT OF MY HOUSE". The birds got smart, they would call the dogs in for supper and then scold them for coming in and start my whole routine ...it was relaly funny to watch!! I caught them in the process of being scolded, and they couldn't figure out how come the words weern't coming from me.... My male tiel has been in love with my brother ever since we brought him home! Everywhere my brother goes, the tiel follows him. If my brother's bedroom door is shut (and he is in there) the bird will sit in front of the door for hours staring at the door knob! BUT! ever since I finished school few months ago, I have had the birds with me most of time I'm home (tiel just jumped onto my head), so perhaps you're right! My conure also does something *strange* I can "pin-point" with him. He slowly bobs his head down and then jerks it up really fast and pin points. He likes (I think!) for me to do it along w/him and if I do it first, he'll join in (he stops if I don't "join in" when he initiates) Is this strange, or what?! Do you suppose, it's something similiar to what my tiel is doing? I really think my birds are *different*! I know other people with birds and they don't have half of the problems I have! Oh by the way, we're buying a new nest box. The one we have is spacious (my father made it!) but I dunno' maybe a store bought one will be better. The cage is located on the house's second floor landing and the nest box was sitting on the bottom of the cage. I'm telling you...my birds are wierd, they're scared of their babies! I talked to a pet store -- they'll be more than happy to take the babies for free once they hatch. If my birds don't hiss and pick/peck at them and they feed them, I won't giv'em away -- that is, until they've matured! ttyl, aysha --- Maximus 3.01 * Origin: [\ncientia] The Inner Sanctum of Arcanity (1:250/718) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 225 PARROTS Ref: D4T00005 Date: 04/22/96 From: MARION HANSEN Time: 08:53pm \/To: AYSHA NASIR (Read 4 times) Subj: Re: Green tiel I Have heard of green tiels. Well, the books have helped me eliminate some PH> species. At the moment I am leaning towards an African Grey or one PH> of the smaller Cockatoos, if I do spring for a bird. I can tell you about African Greys, since i have one. They are extremely bright, but also very shy. They do not care for changes in the cage, the household or their food. But if you're patient and calm you can work around that. Mine is not very "cuddly" and i understand that most of them are that way. But he talks superbly (even to getting the person's voice exactly), you can't tell his speaking from the real person. He seldoms screams; most of his "noise" is talking, singing, or whistling. But it's not constant either; he has long quiet periods where he dozes and just looks at the world and thinks deep thoughts. :> He does do some chewing on things, but not as much as other species. The only thing about him i would change is for him to let me "cuddle" him more. He likes head scratches but that's about it. PH> I did see a lot of books being advertised in Bird Talk, and am looking PH> at cage sizes and prices and etc. Still lots of reading and thinking PH> to do yet, but I'm getting there! It's a big decision... parrots live as long as us with good care, so it's wise of you to give it a lot of thought. Nice talking with you!
