The first one is adequate to power several baby brooders, incubators or heating pads, a laptop computer, etc. I also saw where the Boats U.S. store carries essentially the same type unit for $109 and $119. Petiatric Supply, which used ot be Thief of Hearts, has a power inverter that costs more, about $189, and can be directly hot wired into an auto battery in the car or a spare auto battery in case of emergency. Some of my friends just bought this one. * SLMR 2.1a * Dyslexic Christian sells soul to Santa:Film at 11.... --- GEcho 1.00 * Origin: AVIAN INTERACTIVE EXCHANGE (717)755-0819 (1:270/631) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 225 PARROTS Ref: D4N00004 Date: 04/18/96 From: PATTI JONES Time: 06:41pm \/To: CINDY FREY (Read 4 times) Subj: Need Suggestions Cindy, Or worse yet, the bird will start "barking" like the dogs . That one costs $450 at K-mart. A small one with a price around $250 can power a small electric space heater with no problems at all. Power inverters also work well with 12 volt batteries. If I were going to use an inverter, I would use at least 2 high-amp 12v batteries connected in parallel to each other.(Positive connected to positive and negative connected to negative.) That gives you more time before the batteries go dead. The more juice your inverter handles, the faster the batteries are going to run down, depending on what you are running from the inverter. If you are only going to run a space heater or two, a small generator of about 500 watts would be all you need. ... It seems VERY informational and, in fact, there were several articles that answered some questions I had been pondering. I haven't found any more useful books though. The store that had the mag did not have any books on parrots...just birdwatching stuff. I found an ad in Bird Talk from some people whom I know about, and whom I would trust in getting a bird, if I decide to get a bird. I didn't see any bird shows close enough to my area to attend...and the way some of you guys talk about bird shows, I dunno if I would want to go to one ;) . ttfl ___ Blue Wave/QWK v2.12 --- WILDMAIL!/WC v4.12 * Origin: Glen Burnie Windows BBS, Md. And 7 conures... bet it isn't too quiet around your homestead! :> I've admired the suns for a long time, but i don't think i could tolerate the noise level. The friend i got my Grey from had two gold-capped conures... whenever she was on the phone she had to take it into the bathroom just to talk be- cause they are so loud. That's what's nice about Greys... the most noise they make is their singing and/or talking, but they seldom scream. Koko does scream once in a great while when he's playing with his rock-on-a-chain: guess it p.o.'s him or some- thing! He does it so rarely though that everyone laughs and applauds. It is a cool sound. Just not one you'd want to hear constantly! Cockatiels are so sweet. We had one who died last spring. She would open her cage, climb out, run all around the house till she found me, climb up my leg and nestle up under my hair on my shoulder. She was happy just to sit on you. I'd love to get another one some day... a female. She was my cuddly one. Sniff. Funny how pets get into your heart, isn't it? Randy was my first, and more or less adopted me when I went to visit the breeder's shop one day (ran up my arm, parked himself under my chin, and refused to budge) so is rather much the leader of the pack (even Simon, my b&g knows that-it's hysterical to see a huge bird running out of Randy's way). I keep toying with the idea of getting him a "little friend" one day, but haven't really had "him" sexed, plus am a bit concerned about losing some of the bond we have. (And, the breeder's 3 pairs haven't been producing the last couple years since I brought Randy home). What that you say about them not being as loud???? When Randy gets cranked up he puts out more noise then the b&g!! They are rather acrobatic, when I walk into the room, he's usually hanging upside down from the cage bars (and hollering his little beak off). Do yours do the tapping routine. One of Randy's ways of getting my attention is to tap his beak on something, then look at me, then tap some more, repeating as often as needed to gain my full attention. I also find them not to be much of a talker. He has learned "crazy bird" and "big mouth", though if you weren't used to the sound probably wouldn't recognize it as such. Anyway, he's little, but he's a real hoot.
