However, as you have mentioned this it does bring up a good point. I don't go along with that either. My point is the PET BIRDS AT THE RECEPTIONIST DESK. Those pet birds that are in the waiting room, in the labs....this is a dangerouns way of making Immune defecit psittacine a target for an unknown lurking virus/bacteria that the pet bird may of picked up from the "patient bird" . A nursery in the hospital is an ideal place for a human baby ....but that is not the place of babysitting.....the same for a Avian Doctor of Medicine. Why in the world would anyone take a bird to a place where all sorts of illnesses walk into the place? Boarding is not at the vets office unless a medical assistance is needed. What do you think is in the next room? a healthy bird? WHy is the doctor a doctor if he/she is a baby sitter of healthy birds? Are they offering you a > replacement bird while you are wasting your time? I don't think so. There's a good reason why some of us are conservatives. I lost a bird a number of years ago to surgical sexing because the instrument accidently poked a hole through one of the bird's vital organs while positioning the instrument for sexing. Funny thing is they sewed the bird up and handed it over to me without ever saying a word. Not so funny that the bird started leaking and died a very painful death shortly thereafter. Surgical sexing is an EXTREME measure. It's an invasive measure. In all but the most experienced hands (and you won't find that at a university teaching school, I promise.... as you have recommended to Tom) the bird is in danger. At the very least, as you said, air sacs become infected. But they have to be treated or secondary problems become evident. Are YOU offering a replacement bird if Tom's bird dies on the table? No such replacement would be necessary if the bird is DNA sexed. --- FLAME v1.1 * Origin: Bird Info Network (303-423-9775) (1:104/234) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 225 PARROTS Ref: CF500019 Date: 11/04/95 From: ELLEN KESSLER Time: 08:45am \/To: DANIEL DELGADO (Read 4 times) Subj: GREY CHEEK PARAKEETS > No they are not illigal. I came this close to leaving them home and doing exactly that. I guess I haven't been scared enough yet. But I'd also like to see Dr. Ritchie refuse to speak at shows as a vote of support to eliminate them. I think THAT idea would get the point across! If we insist on having shows, I think we ought to consider only admitting vaccinated birds into the halls.
