I did take the hen to a vet. He broke the egg (Which was soft and pretty small). Then he carefully pulled out the shell and then washed her with a special solution. She then woke uf very frightened but over the weekend she fully recovered. I removed the nest box so that she wont try anithing for a while. My bigest lesson from this was to nevor move a pair if the hen is expecting to lay. Originally I'd thougt that she had simply suffered trauma from the male beating her up. At times the egg was so high it was'nt visible. I know I took a bit long to react. Thank God she was saved in time. The vet could'nt beleive that she was'nt in worse condition since she had been with the problem for more than two weeks. Again thanks to the ones that responded and do'nt worry, she now perches and walks with no problem. --- * Origin: THE PET PLACE Miami, Fla. 305 624-2190 (1:135/68) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 225 PARROTS Ref: CDW00003 Date: 09/25/95 From: CHERANE TRAJERE Time: 04:45am \/To: BARBARA HOWELL (Read 2 times) Subj: OLIVE THROATED CONURES & BH>I will have to buy stuff as I sell stuff. If you don't have normal KJ> greys, sometimes it's tough to be certain your birds are opposite KJ> sexes! What color are your birds? Yea, I sure I have a pair, because the gray (male) has the bright yellow ead, and the bright orange patches. As far as the latino (female) the person whom I got the bird from, said that the bird had laid too eggs and thats how they knew she was a female. So, I think I have a true pair. (hoping) KJ> Also, they may not like the box--what style, size, and shape is it? KJ> What are you feeding them? If the diet isn't right, they may not be KJ> triggered to breed. The light may not be exactly right--not enough, or KJ> too much. Maybe it shines into the nest too much. Maybe they don't feel KJ> "safe" where their cage is located--too much family foot traffic KJ> passing by. KJ> You get the idea--it may be any number of things that are keeping them KJ> from breeding. Be patient and try changing things around--ONE thing at KJ> a time or you won't know what made the difference. Well, Im getting ready to move in a couple of weeks, so I might try to put he birds in a room that is not used and has alot of traffic. I did take another person's advice, and I put up plexy glass for the door instead of the wood, so there would be alittle more light. So far the female as gotten more interested with the nesting box, with the added light. Oh well, and guess as the old saying goes...."Patience is a virtue" Tom KJ> Good luck, and welcome aboard! I find it impossible to believe a bird has been egg bound for 3 weeks. Look at jenday conures.
