LOL They do look scairy in attack mode....heck, they *are* scairy then! Carita has bitten me to drive me away from evil things (such as my husband). I went to a bird fair in Baton Rouge, mostly to meet someone I have talked to on a mailing list, exotic-l. I bought a bunch of toys for my guys, and some crock-locs for my bowl throwing B&G. Actually, I guess I bought those for *me* . And, I bought a couple of raffle tickets (I know, I know, but I couldn't help it> Guess what? I won the grand prize!! I win the sweetest little 12 week old orange-bellied senegal, complete with a large cage! I drove BACK to Baton Rouge todau to pick him up! He is so cute, with those black little-baby eyes. He reminds me of an amazon in disguise. He ate all the way back to Jackson, which surprised me. My other guys arent big about eating in transit. Now, I know nothing about senegals. I have amazons and a B&G. I am feeding him parrot mix, along with fruits, vegetables, and some warm foods like crazy corn. Does this sound right? I know somebody out there must know about senegals! What age are they generally weaned at? The little guy is only 12 weeks old. Is there anything special I should know? I have him quarintened (sp?) at this time. Let me hear from you! You will increase production by fostering English babies to the keets. The keets tend to raise more babies than the temperamental nglish. English are known for raising babies almost grown and then ripping their heads off. The keets will usually raise their babies and those of the English too. Figure out which of your birds are good clean and healthy birds that have good feeding habits. They will teach the babies in the nest about feeding and one day they will be good parents too. Hello all, Last night right after seeing the ever popular Alex tape, I heard a chirp, chirp. I first thought that it was a parolete that makes similar sounds. It turned out to be that one of the two Sun conure eggs that I had in a Lyon Roll-x Incubator had hatched. I allmost DIED. I did'nt expect it to hatch until the 2nd or 3rd. Luckyly I was there to turn off the egg turner. Very healthy chick, went around the incubator in less than a minute. I immidiately turned on the Thief of Hearts brooder (98 Deg). I placed the chick in a small dish lined with toilet paper and left him in the incubator. This was at 11:00 PM. At around 2:00AM I gave him two drops of warm filtered water. Then a 4:00AM, I mixed in a bit of Exact. Since this was a bit premature, I did not have any Pediolyte. Next time, I'll be ready. Note: I initially removed the eggs because 2 out of four had broken and lost their humidity before I could save them. I appeared that the hel lifted a piece of the wire lining the inside of the nest. I was at about 3/8 of an inch from the botom. When the eggs touched the wall, they were punctured. This being my first time with a day old chick, did I do anything wrong ? Any comments or advice will be appreciated. I considered putting the chick under the hen, but she just laid an egg the day before yesterday, and has another one on the way. I was going to end up handfeeding anyways. Ohh, the chick has a bit of swelling on the back of the neck, is this common ?
