I have parakeets, English Budgies, Cockatiels, Amazons and Gouldians. I'm a small time hobby breeder, little of this and a little of that. Working my way towards breeding amazons. I have 3 parent-raised gouldian babies and their father that are for sale. Dont like breeding something that I cant play with, so I am getting out of finches. I am also getting out of the parakeets. Everyone but the finches are hand-fed. Really love the Dominant Pied color in parakeets and budgies, and the Lutino Cockatiels. So those are the colors that I usually have. I just bought my first pair of Yellow Naped Amazons for breeding and I am not getting anywhere with them yet. If and when I do get amazon babies from my pair, you'll know. I'll be the crazy person shouting from the rooftops and handing out cigars. I have a red-throated conure, 4 baby parakeets(4mos?) and one or two young adult male cockatiels available at the moment. I'm told that red-throated conures are uncommon. So maybe the one I have should be used for breeding instead of as a pet. What kind of birds do you have, breed, etc? --- * OLX 2.1 TD * hAS ANYONE SEEN MY cAPSLOCK KEY? --- WILDMAIL!/WC v4.12 * Origin: Utopia Tech (sm)-516/579-7507 DS/V34+/HST - 7.7gig (1:2619/101.1) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 225 PARROTS Ref: CCT00002 Date: 08/19/95 From: MARION HANSEN Time: 06:03pm \/To: DIANE WINER (Read 2 times) Subj: Picky Eaters vs Piglets DW>If I didn't know better I would think your birds were related to Meggie DW>Bobbi Brinker and my CAG. She and all of Bobbi's babies are little DW>piglets. She will eat anything I give her and pigs out on all of it. She When I had one or two birds, they were very picky. Now that the flock has increased, I am wondering if they are pigs in bird costume. I wonder if it has to do with the size of the flock (all bird flock or combo birds & people flock) eating together. When they are enough eating together, they become more concerned with getting something to eat rather than fussing about what they are eating. Even when there is plenty for all. I only had one picky eater, my YN who used to be the only Amazon. My YN eats everything now that she has some competition at mealtime. She never even touched a yam until everyone(birds & people) stopped sharing them with her. She started to wonder what she was missing and finally got one little piece. She ate it. She used to be a real pain to eat now she is no problem. I have them on pellets, seed, fruits, vegtables and those small white beans that i can never spell-Cannellini(?). --- * OLX 2.1 TD * ...scrambled??... The price was very depressing but the info on blue YNA genetics was fascinating. I knew that two green birds could have a blue baby, but never thought this included amazons! Now I find myself staring at my YNA's wondering-do you have a blue gene? I picked out the first amazon that seemed most responsive to me and was the quickest to talk to me. A.O. Parvipes is the smallest. Though I know that there are a lot of mixing with the subs. My YN spends much of her time, trying to figure out a new way to entice my husband within biting (and not letting go) range. She is better than a dog. If anyone gives me a hard time, she chases them out of the room. If I am tired of arguing with the kids, family, whover, I can always take her out. Definately not safe to argue with me when my attack bird is out. She's one bird that is big enough to cause them some concern. Peace at last, for as long as she is with me. A friend of mine has a Quaker that attacks on command. I have never gotten bit by my YN even when she is in full attack mode. She looks so looks so incredibly angry. Instead of those demon possessed dogs on those horror movies they should try an angry amazon instead. That would be more realistic. She did wack me with her beak one time. She saw something that looked dangerous to her and she wouldnt let me near it. Had to put her away to get thru my day. Every time I got too close to the dangerous item, she'd wack me with her beak. She didnt hurt me or even leave a mark. The dangerous item was a swinging light bulb in a storage room. She never saw one before and she was positive it would reach right out and get us. I had my YN sexed years ago by stool testing. I want to have her sexed again by DNA-blood testing. --- * OLX 2.1 TD * ...Polygamy: The smell of an unwashed parrot. --- WILDMAIL!/WC v4.12 * Origin: Utopia Tech (sm)-516/579-7507 DS/V34+/HST - 7.7gig (1:2619/101.1) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 225 PARROTS Ref: CCT00005 Date: 08/19/95 From: MARION HANSEN Time: 06:13pm \/To: FRAN WARWICK (Read 2 times) Subj: Diet FW>The one thing that struck me was the diet that almost all the speakers ere FW>using with their birds.
