Looking for some suggestions on how to get Sparky (2 1/2 month old) Quaker, to start eating his pellets. He use to love his apples, but now all he really wants is his seeds. Veggies and other fruit is not to his liking. Would like to get him on the pellets for a balanced diet, but he is not cooperating. Thanks, George PS- He will eat a little people food also, but very little. One more thing. When we let him out of his cage, which is often, all he wants to do is fly. Wings are trimed, but still he tries. Lots of toys in and out of the cage. Will amuse himself for awhilebut then takes off. Will his flight pattern slow as he gets older? Frankly, when we first noticed it, we assumed that the bird's lack of food or water was an oversight on an employee's part, and that the owner would be *happy* to be notified that his bird was in a health threatening situation so that he could go and remedy it! We first tried calling the store's alarm company, and they apparently did not contact the owner. The thought that the bird had been deliberately left without food or water did not even occur to us. As far as I can tell, we don't have a strong bird club in the area. I'm not a member of one, and unlikely to become one, since I'm grossly overcommitted on club activities already. I prefer to exchange bird tips electronically, where there's no chance I'll bring a disease home to my birds. --- MacWoof 1.5.3 * Origin: Point of Enlightenment (1:109/615.2@fidonet) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 225 PARROTS Ref: CAZ00001 Date: 06/27/95 From: POLLY GOLDMAN Time: 07:14am \/To: KATHY JOHNSON (Read 4 times) Subj: WHEATGRASS SEEDS KJ> I got some "hard" red wheat seeds from my local seed warehouse KJ> distributor. Like when I go to get her out of her cage she has to run around in it upside down and tease before she will get on my hand. A couple of times I have just closed the door and went away because she was trying me. When I came back she was fine to get up. She says more words now but in Marty's LOW NASAL voice. She says hello Robert which she picked up by me talking on the phone to Robert. He just sits and holds the phone while I say "Hello Robert". Marty said she hears everything I say upstairs and now I belive it as she is repeating things I don't say downstairs. Last night she said upstairs which means she wanted to go upstairs. Of course she got her way. The tail is now beautiful. I catch her once in awhile picking at it and divert her attention if I can. What a joy she is. Marty said yesterday she went through all the words she knows all day. Of course he did not answer her?????? Has to be a reason she mimics him and not me. Maybe she likes the peanuts and treats Daddy gives her. She is going through her pellets much faster now that we have the feeding schedule to Marty's liking. Good to see you back. I missed ya. Tell me all about the new babies and how the one that is independent doing. Btw today one of the secretaries brought in a tiel that was thin but beautiful coloring. She was going to take it to school tonight and give it to someone that she did not know. I had a fit. I wanted to take it but was not sure what sex it was and I was afraid if it were a male Rocky and that one would not get along. I told her NOT to give it to anyone unless she went to the house and checked so she called the girl and its for her grandmother that has 1 tiel that is very sweet and loved. I am still a little leary about it. I just can't picture me giving up either of mine. Jay, sometime last year I read an article on a plucking Grey. I think it was in Bird Talk. The people were from the Norfolk, Va. area I think. The bird plucked and they took it on a trip on their boat with them. This seemed to stop the bird from plucking. It started again when they were back at home. It anyone else remembers this please add to this post. I think a Grey would make a good friend on your boat. --- SLMR 2.1a If this were an actual tagline, it would be funny. --- * Origin: The Back Door BBS Richmond VA 804-264-2107 28.8k (1:264/165) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 225 PARROTS Ref: CAZ00006 Date: 06/27/95 From: RICHARD SZAJKOWSKI Time: 10:56am \/To: SUE SMITH (Read 4 times) Subj: Hello? * In a message originally to ALL, SUE SMITH said :-O : :-) :Hello?
