That is the number assigned to you by your carriers' system that allows you to place calls. If you change this, the system will either not recognize your signal - or the charges for your calls would end up on another accounts bill (would that REALLY be "fair" ?). It COULD be really unpleasant to steal from someone that, lets say, is "armed to the teeth", and not afraid to use it. In that situation, not only your freedom - but your LIFE may be your cost for phone service. Now, I'm not saying that you are the type of person to purpetrate an illegal act, I'm just trying to understand your reason for changing the ESN#... Any LEGAL/Technical reasons might be quite an interesting discussion. In what way would it "simplify matters" for you ?! You missed the entire subject, and a lot of details were given in here before. IF you are interested in following the thread, you can just go back to the beginning of it, and that will explain it all. I suggest you try and go back on the BBS, and reset the message counter, and you will find quickly, what this entire discussion is all about. And NO, I am not trying the change an ESN #. And I am certainly not attempting to defraud anyone. Thanks for your comments. Thanks for your -> FV> comments. -> -> I'm a bit confused here.. Why? would you want to change your ESN# ?! Bruce, I can think of a very good reason to change the ESN, but unfortunately, it is still illegal. Let's say that I have 2 cellular phones (one in each vehicle). Both are used primarily for emergencies, and neither is ever used to call the other. Basically, if you changed the ESN of one of the phones to match the other phone, you could get by with paying for only one service. Not only would this save you $20 per month, but no matter which vehicle you are in, you could be reached by the same number. In essence, you would have an extension cell phone. But, the cellular companies would lose money, so they are fighting any attempts to make 'clone phones' legal... Tom --- WILDMAIL!/WC v4.12 * Origin: A.L.T.
