DA> My pager is a Motorola, connected to Mercury's MiniCall, charged at DA> Premium Rates (0839-4 number). But the signal is EXCELLENT! > Well, Hmmm... This page is definitely a BT pager, and connected to their EasyCall thingy. The number starts 01426-2 and I am charged local rates for it.. Perhaps there's something wrong somewhere...! But everyone who's mentioned premium rates have said it's for pagers on 08* numbers, or ones with 01426-6 numbers....... Bye for now! DC> I've found an occurrence where BT have been cheap. I went to DC> Wolverhampton yesterday, and Low Bat cam up on my Swatch Le Beep - so I DC> wen in to H Samual for a battery - only to be told a new one would cost DC> #6.. :( DC> BT sell 'em for 99p each :). BT aren't always the most expensive! They're not any more expensive than any other phone company, I don't think, especailly with Option 15 (or whatever it's called) and Friends and Family and all that I think that there's so little to choose.... DC> What's Energis? We don't get that here... Well, you can only get Energis if you've got more than one line and are a business... They are doing a residential service, but I think it's still in the trial phase... Anyone have any more up to date info????? It's a bit ike Mercury or ACC except you get a "smartsocket" for FREE and no yearly line rental, and the smartsocket is smart and routes calls depending on the area code, not just if you start the number with 0 like the mercury version.... DC> I see that Orange ate employing "Leaky Feeders" to provide service in DC> Tunnels. Perhaps that's what they do in New Street? I don't know. I had heard rumours that they were going to use leaky cable to do this, but one of the main tunnels in birmingham centre is still a black-spot so i'm not sure that they have started to do it (at least here in birmingham). They'd only have to put a directional transmitter or two in the right places to get New Street's platforms, I think.... Or one of those "missile in the wall" thingies they have. DC> Can't argue with that! How do you get your information? Are you a DC> dealer, or just a number-phile? :). Nope, but have a friend who "digs dirt" on Orange for his main hobby more or less...:) DC> But then. I'd have to be paying the line rental whatever... Hmm, so DC> how much is the line rental on Talk 15 (with SMS - having that would DC> mean even fewer calls..) You'd pay line rental on anything; BT, Orange, 121, GSM, Cellnet, Voda..... On Talk 15 you pay: 15 UKP line rental 2 UKP sms fee 2.98 UKP VAT 19.98 UKP TOTAL But then calls to answerphone are 7.5p a minute (one of the cheapest around!) and calls to 0645, 0354 are charged at reduced rate but don't come out of our inclusive air time (neither do 0990s the last I heard). 0800 and 0500 are free, but not calling card numbers! Calls outside of the 15 minutes free ime are 25p and 12.5p per minute peak and off-peak respectively. They also have a weekend option which for (I THINK) 5 UKP a month means you get all weekend calls for 5p a minute, but I don't subscribe to this, but I think it works ut that it's cheaper if you're spending more than 67 minutes on the phone at weekends per month..... DC> in Wales. Also, they have to giv 1yrs notice to quit.. DC> Talk about stuck :). Orange (when I joined, it may have changed) was a 12 month contract nitially, and after that you need to give 3 months notice. As far as I remember, 121 s better than this. But I wouldn't buy a mobile at all unless you're pretty sure you're gonna keep it!!!!!! Bye for now! Anyway, down in my cellar, my BT Cello pager doesn't work. My friend's 1-2-1 doesn't work (no signal) - likewise, a new Nokia Orange can't pick up anything. *BUT* - tonight, another friend came round with a bog-standard NEC Vodafone phone - at least 3 bars down there, if not 4!!! You're CR> last line thoguh confuses me. Do you get commission on the line, the CR> sale of the phone or both??? Our commission struture, meager as it is, is based on the subsidy we get from the carrier when we activate the phone. A Radio Shack salesman who sells a phone for a penny with service activation gets sales credit for a $250 to $300 transaction. That equals about $4 to $6 in commission. If we sell the $89 Tandy Service Program for the phone, we get an additional $5 or $6 bucks spiff. From time to time, we get spiffs for selling more expensive service plans from the carriers, but that's not consistent. * OLX 2.1 TD * Life Stinks...Then you die...Then YOU stink! --- RG05-11/CDRMAIL 104 * Origin: LOTL * (412)346-3592 * RGSNet PA Host * V.34+ (1:129/230) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 223 CELLULAR Ref: DDI00000 Date: 09/13/96 From: ROD LINDSAY Time: 10:54am \/To: MICHAEL ANDREWS (Read 5 times) Subj: Hmmm.....
