However, I've just found Hypericin, an extract of St. John's Wort that is the best seratonin "medication" I've ever tried. All of the chemical ones had negative side effects, so far this has not. As an added benefit, I can get a three month supply by mail order for about $30. The best I ever found with Prozac. et cetera was many times that cost. All of the MS> chemical ones had negative side effects, so far this has not. They've discovered that seratonin has an effect on the retina - but they don't know what the result is. They were looking for clock mechanisms, and were suprised to find that there is one in the retina and it is affected by seratonin. They can only speculate as to the purpose of the clock or what seratonin does to your eyes. She has the occasional outburst but no where near as often or strong. I dont like giving her drugs but when it comes down to how she was behaving and how she is now.. well there isn't much of a choice. Without the treatment she was at the stage where she would drop to the floor if she didnt like something and stay there...she wouldnt budge for anything and she would scream at everything, hit, abuse etc etc etc. I am so relieved that this medication has helped (and in a dramatic way) for now Symone is quiet and helpful again...she is starting to learn again after nearly a year of just wandering in and out of her classroom (she would hit her teacher or have a wild tantrum if she was ASKED to do anything)...for now things are so much better. I know she will have these conditions for the rest of her life and everything will be harder for her to cope with so I will see how things go as she grows up and act according to each new situation. At least out of it all I have learnt how to stand up to doctors and tell them when I think they are wrong.. which has been quite often till recently :) Helen --- TMail v1.31.5 * Origin: Common Ground (21 lines - 9600) Tel +61-8-8223-2131 (3:800/816) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 222 ATTENTION DEF. No, not really. That there are some doc's out there who will label other disorders as ADD or ADHD is pretty much a given, IMO. It's up to the parent(s) to educate themselves about the disorder and NOT take only one "professional's" word for it if they have _any_ doubts. There is a lot of research being done, more all the time. A lot appears to be pointing to a frontal lobe dysfunction - more than one study that claims to find that this or that is the reason. Still a lot that needs to be done. ... Marching to the beat of a diffent kettle of fish." --- PPoint 2.03 * Origin: What's The Point? Virginia Beach, VA USA (1:275/100.8)
