I happen to be one of them. I'm also a counselor, RD>and although I'm qualified in Mental Health in general, my specialty is RD>Chemical Dependency. I'm a friend of Bob and have been for close to 28 years now. ADHD and ADD appears to be a common factor in RD>about 80% of the male population of treatment centers. Far as I can see, this is a mutation, mild mutation, of some sort caused by the consumption of one drug or another. Dyslexia is also common as are other mild problems. Several RD>companies have marketed dietary suppliments directly targeting RD>alcoholics and cocaine addicts. These suppliments provide the "building RD>blocks" for certain neurotransmitters that this population either RD>genetically lacks or has damaged production due to their chemical use. Which then directly affects both the REM and Alpha brain waves, according to the research I got hold of. That also states that alcohol tends to normalize these in the early stages of the disease, which is the real reason that alcoholics drink. RD>The case studies I have mentioned are being checked; and a friend of RD>mine in family practise (an M.D.) and myself are looking to do some RD>studies along these lines. The passionflower/chamomile compound also RD>seems to relieve some of symptoms that are associated with panic RD>attacks. This makes sense, since the parts of the brain and the RD>neurotransmitters involved are interrelated. I'll be glad to share RD>information as I get it. Rod Go for it. This sort of thing is very important when psychiatrists are determined to stuff 20 different kinds of pills into kids without doing any real history. They are scary to listen to when you know what is really going on. And I am very interested in anything you have to say on this subject. Are you aware that the Scots are convinced that salmon oil is magical for alcoholics? The natives around here have the same opinion of that fish. * SLMR 2.1a * Press any key to continue or any other key to quit --- JCQWK * Origin: My Desk, Puyallup, WA (206) 845-2418 (1:138/255) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 222 ATTENTION DEF. It amazes me sometimes to hear the remedies and treatments that pop up. Everything from high-tech babble to pre-historic witchcraft. I have worked with children from families who would rather believe in anything except what the problem really is. I believe that education and further research is needed in alternative methods of treating this disorder. The "magic pill" is more and more becoming a way of making the lives of the parents and teachers more managable, than making the quality of life for the child better. I agree that inter-related factors need more study. I also agree that there are those in the profession that openly resist any "different" methods. [I'ver argued with those who treat alcoholism, drug addiction or ADHD as a Valium deficiency.] I personally ascribe to seeking solutions rather than belabor the problem. As new case studies become available, and as soon as I get other research, I'll make it available. See you soon. "Case studies" showing marked behavioral improvement when the water was filtered? Done by whom? Any citations? As for the rest, where you are eating some posies, hogwash. Dietary supplEments do not treat ADHD. Never have. Probably never will. As for the side effects of the more common medications used, they are rare, mild and often transient. I would love to discuss this at length with you. ===>Mark Probert<=== mark.probert@juno.com --- * CMPQwk #1.4 * UNREGISTERED EVALUATION COPY * Origin: PC BBS : Massapequa, NY : (516)795-5874 (1:2619/110) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 222 ATTENTION DEF. So, they feel that they are being hit for nothing. Even the ADHD child who is not that way is not amenable to corporal punishment. Anyway, people beat their kids because they are bigger and they can. There are much better ways to discipline a child. ===>Mark Probert<=== mark.probert@juno.com --- * CMPQwk #1.4 * UNREGISTERED EVALUATION COPY * Origin: PC BBS : Massapequa, NY : (516)795-5874 (1:2619/110)
