Do you have a report from the dr's who tested your children? Did you know that ADD children are eligible for social security, and any special education posible. Give a copy of the report to the principle, teacher, school board, and if you can, send a copy to a lawyer asking him/her to send a letter to board of education reguarding this matter. I try that, but its so hard to get mine to go to his room. sometimes I'll pick him up and carry him there.. thats a real scene. The other day he was angry with me cause I made him go to his room, and when I wasnt looking, (in powderroom) he came out and distroyed my flowers I had sitting on my coffee table. He made sure I knew about it when I came in to check on him. So, I quietly walked over to his dresser and took his belts and awards and walked out with them. (he's in Tae Kwon do). I wanted him to feel the way he made me feel, hopefully he'll think twice. --- GEcho 1.20/Pro * Origin: Rosie's Place BBS! They stand CB> looking at me or each other and have to keep a serious straight face CB> while taking turns saying HaHaHa....Usually the angry faces turn into CB> laughing ones because it sounds so silly to hear:) Then when we are CB> all laughing we can talk.:) Thats just it. As any person is whether an adult or child if you are upset you can not usually talk seriously and get somewhere. Being angry or frustrated just brings tears or more temper tantrums. Once everyone is calmed down you can be reasonable and more understanding. Sometimes we think just because a child is angry at us because they don't want to do something its just too bad. That is not really the case. We need to look at why they don't want to do it. Its important the child gets a good understanding and sometimes we forget their are many things we don't want to do and actually don't do them or put them off. Sometimes what we feel is important is totally different than what the child feels is important. What I mean is that many times it is not that the child does not want to do it, it is the wrong time for them because what they are doing is important to them. We have several understandings in our home first: If you ask someone to do things, be willing to do it your self. Another words don't ask a child to do something you don't want to do yourself. Second: If someone is upset there is a reason for it which is important to that person. To another person it may not be justified, but to that person it is or they would not be upset. So the whole point is to treat your children like you would like to be treated. You have to get the emotional situation under control in any way that is acceptable and then attack the problem. What I have seen is -> Jeremy needs to be the one in control. The other child is exactly the ame -> why. With both of them fighting for the same position the atmosphere became -> very hostile. How do you get the two to get along? Or is this impossible -> because of their personalities? Some kids are just not going to get along. After all, we all have our personality quirks and kids are entitled to theirs. However... When my kids can not agree to share or take equal turns, I use a large itchen timer which I set for a set amount of time. When the timer dings it's time for the swap. They know that refusal to take turns means revoking the priveldge. We also stress the "Fair Rules of Fighting" such as We use our words, not our hands. Attack the problem, not the person. When someone speaks, we listen. Everyone has a chance to speak. And we go over and over the rules. ometimes I feel like I should just record my voice, sometimes I feel like a referee in a free for all. And sometimes it works so well they don't need me at all. TW> The doctor has both boys on Zoloft for depression and they were TW> started on Adderall for the ADHD problem. TW> First, what are your experiences with Zoloft? I'm not sure it is TW> doing what it is intended for but then I really didn't realize that TW> the boys were depressed. Zoloft: (generic name Sertraline HCI) comes in 50mg & 100mg tabs Uses: treatment of depression; may also be used in the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorders Side Effects: Dizziness, drowsiness, diarrhea, constipation, gas, loss of appetite, nausea, fatigue, headache, dry mouth, increased sweating or tremor may occur the first several days as the body adjusts to the med. Weight loss, anxiety, nervousness, change in food tastes, twitching tingling of the hands or feet, trouble urinating, flushing ringing in the ears, thirst and runny nose may also occur. If any of these effects continue or become bothersome inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if chest pain, a rapid pulse, difficulty breathing, skin rash, fever, mental confusion or seizures while taking this med occur. MY OPINION: This is a heavy duty med and not one I'd care to give to my child. Adderall (Amphetamine/Dextroamphetamine) comes in 10mg and 20mg tabs Uses: This med stimulates nerve cells in the brain. It is used in the treatment of narcolepsy or attention deficit disorder with hyperactivity in children and adults. It is used for short periods with a diet program in obese adults. Side Effects: Nausea, stomach upset, cramps, loss of appetite, diarrhea, constipation, dry mouth, headache, nervousness, dizziness, sleep problems, irritability or restlessness may occur the first several days as the body adjusts to the med. Other side effects reported include rapid, pounding heart rate, rapid pulse, twitching, sweating, flushing, muscle tremor, mood changes or change in sexual desire or ability. Notify your doctor if chest pain or psychological problems while taking this med or if you feel the drug is losing its effectiveness. This med causes dizziness and can affect alertness. This med can be habit forming and must be used with caution Drug Interactions: Inform your doctor if you take high blood pressure medicine, or MAO inhibitors, meperidine (demerol for pain), digoxin (Lanoxin) or anti-depressants. Drug Tips: Although this med is often referred to as a stimulant, it is not effective and even dangerous and illegal to use this to try to improve athletic performance, mental alertness or to stay awake ... MY OPINION: This also is not something I'd care to give to my child and certainly not in conjunction with zoloft or any other anti-depressant. TW> I will be very appreciative on any comments concerning these two TW> drugs. What is the specialty area of the physician who prescribed these two meds? Is this person VERY knowledgeable of and does he/she treat MANY children with ADD/ADHD? If the answer to the second question(s) is no then I'd strongly urge/recommend/hope you or the parents of these boys would find a doc who specializes in the treatment of ADD/ADHD in children; has a LARGE number of patients with the disorder and is recommended by the parents of those patients. ... That's just my opinion... and I could be wrong. --- PPoint 2.02 * Origin: What's The Point? Virginia Beach, VA USA (1:275/429.5) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 222 ATTENTION DEF.
