With all the subs my sysop pulls, and the ones that I pull, between the two of us, it is a challenge to keep folks on target, but so far we hant had a problem.. I would like to bring up a topic tho.. Apparently when I posted a message in another dog/pet forum, it had a slur against gays, stating something to the effect that AIDS was good for them... I would like to point out that *I* in no way endorse (and Neither does Thorny's BBS) Endorce such slander or insults to gay/lesbians/or Bi Sexuals (or any one else) Thorny had pulled some tag lines from a web site, and didn't get thru all of them, and missed the offesive ones. Our bbs auto tags our messages with a tagline, and we have no choice about which tag we get. To thorny's Defense I will state in a very non personal way, he and his wife have been thru a bit of a hard time this past 3 months, as his wife had to have some major surgery. He was taking care of both her and the cat, and I think when he pulled the DL of tag files he really didn't go thru them. Even as a co sysop, I can't access all the files he has, I have limited keys here. But Take my word, He certinally would have never let that slip thru, if he had seen it. I have talked to him, and it is deleted from the files. If any other OFFENDING tag like that comes up, please let me know. (when I say offending I mean slurs against various races, or nationalities, or sexual prefrences... other tags are usally met to be puns, this one was NOT, and I have been slammed several times for it, both in public and in private email) Thank you for your consideration, and Again Thorny and I are Truely Sorry that that one slipped thru! Judge Migdalia Lopez set a June 22 trial date for Adrian Adame, 17, Juan Garcia, 21, and Gerardo Zamora, 20, accused of stoning a stray dog as a frenzied crowd cheered. Adame and his attorney appeared before Lopez as about 20 members of Brownsville Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals packed County Court at Law No. 2. Court-appointed attorneys representing Garcia and Zamora called the court Tuesday to request a June trial, court coordinator Nora Anderson said, noting their court appearances were not mandatory. "He's innocent," court-appointed attorney Rick Canales said of Adame after the hearing. "He communicated to me that he wanted to show his respect to the court. I thought it was important to have my client here." Adame, who stood somberly before Lopez, declined comment, said Canales, who noted the three men had pleaded not guilty at their arraignment. In the audience, about 20 spectators wore large buttons showing their alliance with Brownsville Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. "We want them prosecuted aggressively, and if they're found guilty, we want the maximum penalty handed down," said Denise Porter, president of the newly formed organization. In a petition presented to prosecutors, the animal rights group gathered about 1,500 signatures demanding that the guilty receive maximum sentences, be prohibited from owning animals and receive court-ordered psychological counseling. "For years, this has not gotten the attention it should," said Laurel Powell, Brownsville's animal control supervisor. "People haven't taken it as seriously as they should, and the court system a lot of times hasn't carried things out as fully as they do in matters concerning humans or property." If convicted of the Class A misdemeanor, the three men could face as much as a year in jail and a $4,000 fine, Assistant District Attorney Chad Bull said. Porter said animal cruelty constitutes a felony in 18 states. "Every society is judged by how we treat its weakest members," said Lionel Muz, a teacher who serves as a member of the animal rights group. "There's a direct correlation between animal cruelty and human cruelty, and we need to send them a message that we won't tolerate this kind of behavior." Accused in the crime were two juveniles who have been placed under a form of probation known as deferred prosecution by Cameron County juvenile authorities. Based on their clean records, the two boys, age 14 and 16, were placed on six-months probation by juvenile authorities, said Joan Macrum, assistant chief juvenile officer at Darrell B. Hester Juvenile Justice Center in San Benito. Sept. 12, sheriff's deputies were patrolling an area off Kroger Road near Harlingen when a citizen told them a group of young men lured a dog to a canal bank, where a crowd watched as it was stoned and left for dead. Deputy Ernie Gonzalez, who called it the worst case of animal cruelty he has seen, said the dog was still alive when he got to the canal bank. Gonzalez said a witness told him a group of young men lured the dog to the canal, then surrounded it and threw rocks as a crowd cheered."""""""""""""") --- * Origin: [FDN] NQBBS +1 514 523 4031 IP-mailer: mmnet.dyn.ml.org 1:167/323) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 121 DOGS Ref: F5G00005 Date: 04/11/98 From: RICHARD AVERY Time: 06:24pm \/To: ALL (Read 0 times) Subj: Citronella collar Thanks to all who offered advice and suggestions re barking collars.
