Hi Patrick, -> I was worried they would get even more familiar. As I said, I don't -> know if it just went away or the cat got it. We have two cats in addition to the dogs. I know that Nikki wouldn't tackle anything bigger than a mouse...Stinky, I'm not too sure about. However, as the dogs don't do anything more than bark at the possum, I'll leave well enough alone. Living, eating, children-li Any and all information will be GREATLY appreciated!! -> -> "Authoritive, aggressive, exhuberant, a barker, most affectionate in -> family, curious." -> Also: "It does not need grooming." -> It also states it is a great mouser, outstanding watchdog, and a good -> apartment dog but loves wide open spaces. -> -> -> Another book, HP's How to Choose and Care for Your Dog, says that it -> is affectionate, a good ratter, a good watchdog and "no drawbacks -> known". "Alert, gentle, affectionate, but always ready to defend." -> As for grooming, regular brushing. -> -> I disagree with 'does not need grooming". Every dog should be -> groomed, since hair will eventually fall out and this is the time -> you find skin problems. Other than that, now you know as much as I -> do. DB} Thank you so very, very much for the information. We live just bordering a city park and so it would have plenty of room to run around. We have tons of squirrels but they come right up to the house and eat as our dogs do not chase them they actually protect them from the kids that try to chase them. The way this dog sounds it might just chase them as you said it makes a coot ratter/ mouser. Might not know the difference. Probably wouldn't learn either----the difference I mean. Anyway,, we are just looking for another (idea for a dog) and thought this one might be what we are looking for. Still sounds good to me. Life is -> Good! -> Skritches to the Girls... This household is an ever changing one. People and animals. My son who had been living at home, is now off to school. My daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter have moved in with me. What with my tracheotomy...my doctor really didn't want me living alone. The animal population has increased. Sara is here now...plus two gorgeous, pure bred Australian Shepherd 8 month old pups, brother and sister. Plus one more cat, Cookie, who is a house cat (previous owners had her de-clawed). So that makes a total of 6 dogs and three cats. All the dogs are getting along quite well. Even Maggie who used to be somewhat dog aggressive. We've had only one problem so far and that is with the male Aussie pup. Junior is house broken, but just today decided to "pee" in the kitchen...on the legs of the dinette. Luckily, these are metal legs, but still...don't know why Junior has started doing this. I take that back, I just may have an idea. Katie Scarlett has a favorite place to lie down in the kitchen, in a far corner. When Junior goes into the kitchen, Katie will "soft growl" and warn him away. So maybe now, Junior is trying to mark some territory? Life is proving to be very interesting... I'm looking for some guidance here. We have two dogs -- a six-year-old neutered male Manchester Terrier and a three-year-old neutered female Jack Russell Terrier. Boris, the Manchester, is pretty laid-back and never really a problem. But Jackie, the J-R, has turned into quite a barker (and when she gets wound up, that usually prods Boris into joining the chorus!!!). I was wondering if anybody out there has had experience with the so-called "training" or "barking" collars -- battery-operated devices supposed to give the dog mild electric stimulus in the effort to stop unreasonable barking. My wife and I have a number of concerns. 1. These things are relatively expensive. Do they work? 2. What is the effect on the dog? Is this "cruel and unusual punishment? 3. What other method might be useful in trying to restrain Jackie's barking? Anybody out there have any thoughts? We'd be happy to have some input from fellow dog lovers. Absolutely. Approaching closely the age my Big Dog attained. My personal belief is that black females DO live a bit longer if they're in good basic health. Mine have seemed much more robust past ten than some of my other Danes. It doubtless has to do with genetics, general physical makeup, and the healthy atmosphere Cleo has lived in. I'm convinced my Princess Poo would have lived that long if she hadn't been bitten by the brown recluse spider. Her vim and vigor at 11 was amazing! I think you might want to incorporate the first six lines into the Doghouse advertising (NOT!) policy. As both of you know, while I upload educational or humorous articles used in my Canine Classified from time to time, since arriving here in late 1993, I never discussed here the amount of a subscription until Shoshona asked me recently to do so in response to someone's inquiry to her. That was the first and as far as I am concerned last time for that kind of post from me. I like to share some of the "good stuff" from my paper with the Doghousers but I do not ever want to say or do anything in the open echo that might give others the impression that I am trying to use this medium to promote my publication. So, while I responded as Shoshona suggested because the request came from a moderator, I would much prefer in the future to discuss subscription and/or ad rates by Internet e-mail or Fido netmail as a private one-to-one communication. The same is true of a request to see a sample copy because I don't believe people should post their street addresses or voice phone numbers in an electronic international forum. Today's world is a dangerous place for those who are too trusting and rely on the expectation that the readers of their posts are as honorable as they are. I would hate to learn that something bad happened to someone here who openly posted an address to me that was not a post office box number.
