If you're not using SCSI, then Windows 95 only supports Mitsumi, Panasonic, and Sony. We've yet to get it to recognize a Pioneer IDE quad drive. For those Matsushita (Panasonic) drives hooked to a SoundBlaster, you need a special file from Creative Labs. Don't know why CD support isn't better. The combination of a 386-25, 4 megs of memory, and Windows is one I would not want to work on for more than a minute or two. As processor speed increases, so should performance. If it's not, they you likely have some crap-o machine like Packard Bell or something similarly pitiful. I have run Windows 95 on a number of 486's with 8 megs and it moves just fine. Of course, a Pentium-100 with 32 megs is better, but with computers more is always better. --- * WinQwk 2.0b#1216 * Affirmative action rewards underachievement --- WILDMAIL!/WC v4.12 * Origin: HANGER 18 BBS (206) 538-0381 (206) 538-0382 (1:3408/36.0) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 219 WINDOWS/WRKGRPS Ref: CE100006Date: 09/28/95 From: RICHARD BAUERSACHS Time: 09:20pm \/To: LAURA HARMON (Read 10 times) Subj: RE: EGA AND W FOR W LOGO LH>When I installed W for W on a machine that uses EGA, I got LH>a message that the Windows logo will not load and I needed to LH>go into Setup to get the logo. Well, with systems with only 4 or 8 megs of RAM, YES... you do see a speed difference... But what SoftRAM really does is that it just gives you more memory for open applications... i.e. you can have more applications open without running out of RAM.. it gives you more RESOURCES. But with a 4 or 8 Meg system.. it's a MUST for those who want to use 95 in some sort of "workable" fashion. Seriously, I really like it... I don't see much difference in a 16 or 20 meg system, but with a 4 or 8 Meg system, Yowsa! Bit difference... the computer does a LOT less thrashing than without it... get it....
