Just because such a note flies through an echo, does not always mean the echo isn't being updated. Some BBSes forward the reminder notes to the echo AFTER the update has already been done privately! When you see one of those, you should seek out the moderator and ask him/her behind the scenes if everything is OK, rather than panicking (my echo's users are more fond of the "panic and assume the echo is dying off" approach to those posts, BTW. ) And if Doghouse ever looks like it would go under for lack of a moderator, I'd be glad to take over the job. --Kathy kjohnson@ddc.com * SLMR 2.1a * Savour each sensation... --- Silver Xpress Mail System 5.4M3d.b2 * Origin: bloom county bbs * dearborn, mi * (313)582-0888 (1:2410/400) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 121 DOGS Ref: EGW00001 Date: 12/26/97 From: JERRYL EVANEE Time: 10:31am \/To: JUDITH BANDSMA (Read 0 times) Subj: MODERATOR > SB> Moderator: THERAPY_SERVICE_DOG /@ @\ > > Looks like we might lose this echo; or at least we lost > our old moderator. Pets were taxed, workers weren't. SE> needed to spark a gradually spreading impression that the path of SE> progress is the path away from tail and ear amputations. Ears are NOT amputated. Frankly, I like the look of my Bouv with her cropped ears. I also like the look of my older Bouv with her natural ears. But if Rosie (31" at the shoulder and a slim 100 lbs) had a full tail, I'd need a full body protective suit and that would be uncomfortable in the SC heat. Probably would with Dot, too, but she's still a puppy and doesn't have her full power. I absolutely cannot agree with the non-removal of dew claws, though. Even mixed breeds should have them removed. They are a danger to the dogs. Pulled out by the roots if caught on something, they tend to also pull tendons and tear muscles in the leg. You also have the danger of catching them while grooming and inadvertently hurting the dog. --- FLAME v1.1 * Origin: Chas Co Sheriff's Ofc wants *YOU*! One that seems to know I'm a dog lover so she taught herself to play fetch! =) Plus, I have 3 cockatiels and all get along fine. I saw the issue of weight being brought up here. My one friend accused my poor Athena of being over weight but she's a long haired persain mix and does appear quite bigger than she really is. She is heavy feeling but when I weighed her she was 18 lbs. It seems to be all muscle and not flab. At least her stomach is smooth and solid. We are having a problem on my local Houston board with incoming Fido echomail. There hasn't been any since the day before Christmas, and SYSOP is evidently out of town for the holidays, so I don't know when it will get fixed or whether the problem also involves outgoing mail I upload from my offline reader. To play it safe, because this is a very important post, I am uploading via PSL and also via Fire on the Bayou in Lousiana to which I will telnet from PSL when I go there in a few minutes. IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT Well, folks, I was the one who was premature when I replied to someone's post about the status of the moderator by saying that Michael Stroh is still it. Officially he is, but he isn't lurking here monitoring the content of the traffic as I thought he was. His post of some time ago informing Doghousers that he had lost Fido access and suggesting Sue Matthews as moderator if she was still here evidently did not get out into the net for us to see. I'm sorry to say that since learning the truth I have been e-mailing back and forth with him this past week in hopes of finding a viable solution to his problem but, as you will see from my quotes of the pertinent parts of his e-mails to me, there is none. So we need to nominate and elect a new Doghouse moderator. First I will give you Michael's reply to my initial post telling him what I had said here about him still being moderator. Then I will give you the most recent post in which he lays out for you what he believes should be the criteria for selecting a new moderator and suggesting that we should hold an election if more than one person accepts nomination or volunteers to be nominated. If any of you want to communicate with him, his e-mail address and web address are at the end of the first message. MS>>I lost my access to fidonet a few months ago on short notice. So it's in our hands now. I am sorry it turned out this way. Michael has been an excellent moderator. Whoever takes over will need to be able to contact him by e-mail to get the instructions for echo renewal and the password for doing it or whatever is necessary. Is there someone here who knows how to organize the echo for selection of a new moderator and is willing to do that? How about it, Sue, Shoshona, Elvis, anyone else who is a SYSOP? (I would include Kathleen but she's already said she's leaving Fido and I think her board went down yesterday). Please somebody volunteer!
