Moderator: James Farrow 1:251/103 Asst. Moderator: Nancy Wood 1:387/510 The ENVIRON Echo was created to bring together individuals interested in discussing environmental topics together in a controllable forum where ideas, theories or just plain discussions can take place without childish activity that plagues many other fidonet echos. The rules are very simple and extremely easy to follow. ENVIRON is to be carried ONLY BY FIDONET SYSTEMS. Porting to other networks is NOT ALLOWED The Rules: 1) All topics discussed MUST have some relationship to the environment in some manner. 2) There will be NO toleration of FLAMES in this echo. There was one incident where an individual tried to get around the rules because of their position in Fidonet. Unfortunately for this person, they have been banned forever from the echo and almost lost their nodenumber. I am not playing here. I do mean business. 3) ANY and ALL complaints MUST be sent via NETMAIL to 1:251/103 Do NOT clutter the echo with whiny complaints about anyone. 4) Anti-environmental discussions are allowed. This is to allow the full spectrum of the issues at hand to be seen and will allow for the downside of an argument to be discussed. Anti-environmentalism is discouraged as it is what got us in this mess. 5) The moderator is the ULTIMATE authority in this echo. If you have a problem with the echo, do not go to the NEC or REC, come to me. That's what I'm here for. 6) The ENVIRON Echo is the sole property of the Moderator James Farrow and not the property of its participants. Basically, I own the lecture theatre, if you want to use it, follow my rules. 7) The use of Pseudos or fake names is NOT ALLOWED. If you want to be excepted, netmail me with a good reason or too bad. 8) Topics that are ILLEGAL or that could cause major political problems in the echo are not allowed. We do not need a rebirth of the arguments for drug legalization (which has nothing to do with the environment) or abortions etc (the same applies). Punishment Procedure The moderator has TOTAL discretion on punitive actions. Systems that offend the rules may find themselves out of the echo for anywhere from a week to a permanent removal. Wouldn't a disscussion of all North American forests be more appropriate."; I have a couple of answers. The first being that I have only been in Forest Technology for a limited time and most of my instruction has been concentrated on the Boral forest of Alberta, since thats where I live and hope to work, and on the Costal forests in B.C. The second being that I think we as Canadians have enough on ower plates right here to talk about, and be more knowlageable about. The thrid is that other places in North America run there forest management totaly different than ours and to get into the details of how the Americans run there privatly owned land as opposed to how we run our crown lands is far to big to be having intelligent conversations on, at least with my present knowlege of these subjects. I did not say that I only wanted to talk about this selected topic however, I am very interested in expanding my knowlege in my field and if you would like to talk about other issues please do and I will try to join in and speak my opinion on what I know. Thanx for droping me the message and I hope I will hear from you again, hopefully we can get more to happen here! --- Maximus/2 3.01 * Origin: /* CR/2 */ Edmonton, AB, CAN. 33.6 v34+. 403-453-5711 (1:342/5011) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 211 ENVIRONMENT Ref: E3X00001 Date: 03/27/97 From: NANCY WOOD Time: 02:45am \/To: ALL (Read 0 times) Subj: Echo Rules ENVIRON Echo Rules and Guidelines. It is famous for its beauty, its sailing facilities and its superb oysters. The Duchy Oysterage is an important commercial activity on the River and the purity of the water is an essential factor. The River is also of international importance for the abundance of its marine wildlife; the beds of Eel-grass (Zostera) and calcified seaeweed (Maerl), a coral like plant, are of particular importance. The designation of the Helford River as a Voluntary Marine Conservation Area draws attention to the importance of its marine life. Intensive use of the River and its shores brings increased pressure on its natural systems which therefore need to be monitored and safeguarded, particularly the Sensitive areas with their mix of silt, sand and gravel. The River is protected nursery for Bass, which can only be taken by shore angelers. Fishing with fixed nets is banned in all parts of the River. The local authority administers a Bye Law which limits the speed of boats to 6 Knots in a large part of the River. Supported by the World Wide Fund for Nature (UK) as well as local organisations the HVMCA aims to achieve by voluntary means the harmonious use of the river and to monitor the quality of the marine environment.
