Walt Mateija is interested in moderating this one. Is that ok with everyone? If so, I'll give him the password. Right now I'm a temp moderator. Are there any utilities that let Paradox do anything with Btrieve tables? (I'm using Paradox for DOS still, but have machines around that can run Windows apps.) I can FTP, if there are apps on Novell's page, Borland's FTP site, or SimTel. __________________________________________________________________ Reed Darsey, Grand Bay, Alabama, USA maf00039@maf.mobile.al.us --- Blue Wave/Max v2.20 * Origin: Center of the Cosmos (1:3625/441) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 119 PARADOX Ref: D1D00001 Date: 01/06/96 From: KEN CHURMS Time: 08:09pm \/To: TORRE FOOTE (Read 5 times) Subj: E-LIST TF>I think that the time has come for us to decide whether I should stay on TF>as Moderator until the traffic drops to the point where we discontinue TF>or if a new Moderator should take over until that point. I get the same message when this is tried on a >different PC. > >Do anyone else get this same error message? The name of the application where the error is occurring is PXDSRV2.DLL. GPFs usually occur when two programs collide in memory or a mistake in programming. If it was a one-time problem, you would ignore it. Since yours isn't you do the following (some of which you have already done): 1. Try to reproduce error. 2. Run a utility check CHKDSK/f and then delete all stranded .LCK iles. 3. After deleting any stranded .LCK files, retest for the GPF. If your machine works, than the cause was probably a corrupt stranded .LCK file. CK's occur whenever the PARADOX system is exited abruptly. It is recommended that you put CHKDSK/f in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file of every inexperienced user. 4. If you still are getting the GPF, rebuild the tables with the TABLE REPAIR utility. They tell me this may seem like a drastic step, but it only takes a few minutes and eliminates table damage as a possibility (rebuild entire table, not just header info). 5. Because GPFs are often caused by CONFLICTs between programs, it is recommended to simplify your system. Here is a sample: CONFIG.SYS device = C:\windows\himem.sys files = 80 buffers = 40 stacks = 9256 Shell = c:\dos\command.com c:\dos/p/e:2048 no FCBS Also, delete *.LCK, PARADOX.NET, and PDOXUSRS.NET files. Retest. If you are still having a problem...try weeding out all unknown variables, like: TSRs, Screen Savers, Virus Protectors, and any other nonessential software in your config file. * If it works on someone else's machine, then you definitely have a config problem. 5. Try adding the following line to the [386 Enhanced] section of your SYSTEM.INI file: MaxBPs=768 6. If none of these steps work, you can either continue simplifying our system or you can reinstall DOS, WINDOWS, and PARADOX. Retest between each installation. {sounds like a real pain, doesn't it} AND OF COURSE, BACK UP YOUR OLD CONFIG FILES AND KEEP A RECORD OF WHAT YOU CHANGES!! Hope this helps * Borland may be able to suggest to you a work-around solution if you call their Tech Support Line. Is Paradox confined to the scrap heap!!! Are there any UK professional developers left... I have produced a quite comprehensive logbook program to record hours of flying time. However, I am not a natural programmer and sometimes found that I got 'stuck' for ages. Without a group of enthusiatic like minded individuals I feel that I may soon have to drop PFW in favour of the Microsoft product. Does anyone know of any BBS in the UK that is interested in PFW and carries files as well as a lively conference.. ___ Blue Wave/QWK v2.12 --- WILDMAIL!/WC v4.12 * Origin: Ooh!
