I use the FTP site as it is cheaper form me than long distance phone calls. 408-431-5096. There used to be a Borland program Object vison or View? that used the Pdox engine. It would allow you to do exactly what you want. Setup a windows front end to a DB kept in DOS. Aside from that you might upgrade to Ver. 4.5 of DOS and Then keep to only the field types that DOS support. I'm not sure but if you check the field types that might work with ver 4 as well. At one location, many of the workstations are JU>low-powered hardware (donated) that runs Paradox DOS tolerably, JU>but are unusable with Win. As a result, I'd like to keep all DBs JU>DOS/Win compatible and keep using Pdoxdos (4.0) as necessary. There's a 3rd party "PAL COMPILER" program highly acclaimed by some, mixed Reviews by others, called Turbo Pal. It creates 1-3 Meg Executables (so you'll need some hefty RAM on your older computers). No less than Dell Computers uses this product (promotional??) in their organization. Caveat Emptor! I have a couple of applications that need to be re-written, or converted to use with the Paradox Engine. Does your product offer an alternative to these two choices? If so, I would appreciate any sales literature, system requirements, and/or programming limitations, so I may carefully consider purchasing your product. I did receive a small postcard, with testimonials on it, but also need system requirements and what library functions, etc, are supported: (reports, popup, pulldown menus, etc) and what limitations there are. * SLMR 2.1 * Computers Make Very Fast, Very Powerful Mistakes. --- QScan/PCB v1.16b / 01-0024 * Origin: (1:3407/14) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 119 PARADOX Ref: CDW00007 Date: 09/26/95 From: TORRE FOOTE Time: 09:47am \/To: PAM RICHARDSON (Read 5 times) Subj: FILES Pam: PR>Are there any Paradox util files or anything available for downloading? PR>Shareware files? Anything? You have reached not only the Paradox section on your local board, but the international FIDO electronic conference (echo for short) for Paradox as well. There are no Paradox-specific files available via FIDO, since it does not, as far as I have seen, support a true library function as would the subscriber services like CompuServe and America Online. There *are* BBSs that carry their own file listings, as may the one you are accessing from Montgomery, AL (am I reading this correctly, this is your own FIDO node?). I do know of several good sources for Paradox files and I would be glad to post this list on the echo for everyone's benefit should anyone request it. Almost all of them, however, would involve a long-distance phone call in order to do the download. Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance. You do not put "" around the entire KB>query - only the reserved word or character. Hello Katie: Thanks for your answer. In fact, in ObjectPAL, you can even write: | Field | | "All Grey" | and get the right answers ! But, you begin to get into trouble if you want to use a variable: ---------------- Var q Query Item String endVar Item="All Grey" q= Query ................ | Field | ... | Check ~Item | endQuery ... ---------------- In ObjectPAL, putting double quotes around any reserved Paradox word that might be present in a variable string seems to me to be pretty involved, although it should fix the problem (but you still waste 2 chars in your field!). I am not sure you can use a variable in a DOS Query as in a Windows Query. Do you have the same problem in DOS when you use a variable that includes a Paradox reserved word ?
