Was it the weather? Up here in NYS we had a very cold May giving the newbie plants a bad start, then a tooo hot July wherein they didn't grow well even with our watering them, and a very WET fungus loving August. IT's a sad thing. The italian plum tomatoes came up ok but were not very sweet. Same goes for the green beans. The zukes didn't grow at all. The brussels sprouts ditto. The peppers ; hot red ones, did grow well tnough. No peas. The garlic we had planted last october came up ok but the bulbs are small. Im not sure wether to attribute this bad turn out to the weather and or the clayish soil of this area. ... It appears the plantings are producing a second set of blossoms that probably would produce a second sets of fruits if I was in a warmer and longer season then here in the metro Boston, MA area. And I must admit those tomatoes that have ripened have much more meat and relatively small amount of seeds then Big Boys, etc.;and are pleasant in salads (or with a bit of olive oil and some wine 8-). So if you are in a milder clime, give them a try next seasons. Ciao, Ack. --- * SLMR 2.1a * Tried windows- All I got was a GUI mess on my screen 8-) * Origin: SKYLINE BBS (617)361-1242 U.S.A. If I wanted to make my own cucumbers, Hehe sorry hon, no offense but this reminds me of something funny my daughter once asked. I know what you mean to say though. Well you got to grow the things first. :) Then find a good recipe for pickling them. Be careful with the salt. I goofed making pickles once and boy I'll tell ya, ooooooh man... I had taken my mom a jar and she had to hold her breath putting them down the garbage disposal. They were SO SALTY!!! argh. I'd feel safer making buttersweet pickles than the dills I had tried to do. Gerkins I think are from those tiny type gourmet type cukes? If you don't want to grow cukes tho u can always buy them. Just make sure they're firm/ripe and free of blemishes. Good luck. ..Cindy ...
