For quite a few years I grew everything in the ground, but the last few years I have done a lot of experimenting with container gardening and find that I have better luck with some veggies in containers than in the ground. Sounds like you're doing pretty well so far with your tomatoes. You have them in big pots which tomatoes need, and getting sun and nutrients...so they should do well. When your tomatoes get big and loaded with tomatoes it's real important to keep the watering constant. They will be more prone to blossom end rot if you let them dry out too much. At that point there roots will really be fulling those pots so it's possible you might need to water them a couple of times a day. Good luck with your tomatoes. Marilyn ... They get hotter when the weather is hotter. Also keep them on the dry side if you can, that also helps make them hotter. In other word, if the plant is slightly stressed that seems to turn up the heat in peppers. If your climate doesnt' cooperate there isn't much you can do that I know of. I hope that helps. We have all kinds of green tomatoes on KN> both plants. This is our first year raising patio tomatoes. Your leaves could be turning yellow from a lack of nutrients. Try some miracle gro on them if you haven't been feeding them regularly, if that's the problem they'll green up fast. How many hours of sun do they get a day? That's one of the most important items. Tomatoes need a lot of hours of sun. If they have only a few hours a day it'll take a lot longer to ripen any tomatoes. KN> What other veggie's do people raise on patio's? Next year we want KN> to raise more vegetable's. You can grow quite a few different veggies in containers depending on your tastes. I've grown bush cucumbers, peppers, carrots, beets, lettuce, spinach and some others in containers with good luck. Marilyn ... No, if I remember right, it's an insect that lays it's egg on the squash or pumpkin plant itself, right around this time. When the egg starts to grow is when it then burrows into a branch of the plant and then feeds on the plant. Thats where you get a section of the vine dies off and if not caught in time eventually the whole plant dies. But if you look at the plant, you find where the dead part and live part meet, cut open that section and there's your little fat grub!
