MM> It's the constant day-after-day stuff that grates on your nerves... MM> and worse, it whips away what little humidity there is in the air, so MM> it's hard to start planting in the spring. I never thought of that. I know when we get a cold front quite often it's windy and the plants will dry out in the wind, even though the ground still has mosture in it. I guess they just can't get the water from the soil as fast as the wind dries them out. MM> and see what happens. Right now the crabgrass is still dormant and I'd MM> like to keep it that way. There has been too much tampering with the food chain as it is. If I can move the critters to another plant, and if they'll then stay on that plant, then that little effort on my part was worth it. The only wild critter I won't tollerate in my area, withing a hundred feet of me and my living space inside and out, is fire ants. I see no reason for them, they are a pestilence, and they can be dangerous for me and my daughter as hundreds every year have allergic anaphalactic shock reactions to being stung by these monsters. Some even die. I don't bother them if they don't bother me, but if they move into my territory they are dead. Fire ants also kill and destroy the lesser agressive species of ants such as the carpenter ant, the common garden aunt, and several other species of ants that are non-harmful to humans. They are a perversion of nature. Well with that said, (Grin,) I will sign off. Funny thing - we were just wondering about that on our local BBS. I live quite a bit further north, and we are still very much in the grip of winter here. The heating is working full time (more or less) and my guess is the somewhat low humidity in heated houses might be contributing to the drying out of the tips of the leaves. If you have a low humidity problem (roughly less than 45%), perhaps a daily water misting with a pistol grip would help a little. I don't know for certain if thats the cause of the problem - but it was our best guess. None of the other plants growing here are affected in that manner - just the spider plants. * SLMR 2.1a * "I promise to take good care of your cat." -Schrodinger --- WILDMAIL!/WC v4.12 * Origin: STAT!
