--------------------------------------- Response #2 Subj: What? No More PdoxDOS? Section: Non-Tech General To: Ray Birks, 71231,3002 Monday, 09 January, 1995 2:26:29 PM From: Keith Bigelow [Borland], 75300,2527#311171 Ray, You are correct, Borland will not be delivering a future version of PDOXDOS. This decision is obviously not an especially popular one, but it reflects our need [Borland's need] to focus on products which return the highest yield. The DOS market for new product sales has dropped off over the last two years as people have moved to the Windows platform, and the result is that large companies like Borland [and MS] are winding down DOS development. The fact that we are discontinuing development does not negate the fact that PDOXDOS is a very strong product, but rather that we perceive the market to be diminishing at such a rate that new versions don't provide the ROI we need. This decision is very hard on my developers, because the market for DOS vertical market apps has not yet evaporated [but the market for building the tools that produce those apps has]. I will be working very hard to make as much information as I can available to our developers in the following months. Hello All, Well, the project is really coming together. Talk about enhancements whooo. So lets get down to business. I've now 2 main "parts" DB's and was trying to "append" both into one but, my parts_# field needs A and N for the field type and created a unfavourable result at this time. My next thought was to have the report look after "combinding" the answer.db for the order report. This was good except I needed a linking field, once I figure how I'am going to add this "dummy" field I'll be onto the next step. The end results eventualy I wish to see is the whole database combined. One question though? Can you have a user type in a "form box" a part_# and have Paradox search across say multiple database's?? This could open up a new can of worms....... Examining the problem further revealed that my lookup table addresses are stored with their physical location, and not with the logical alias that I selected while defining the lookup. So far I have tried migrating the datamodels to the enduser, restructuring the lookup by selecting the alias from the PFW dialog box, and even entering the alias and table name with dot notation. Nothing works. Have you any suggestions? Nobody else in the local Paradox SIG has experienced this problem, leading me to conclude that either my ODAPI/IDAPI settings are incorrect, or that my copy of PFW5 (which I purchased directly from Borland in late June/early July) my have a few kinks. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is a known fact and complaint with the PdoxWin product. You do NOT have a defective copy. It is a design flaw (IMO). The other area that I have a problem with in the lookup table is that you can't add more records to it on the fly (while you are still in the lookup mode).
