Both systems are running Warp 4. My understanding is that when using LAN Distance the work system should simply appear as if it was a node on a lan. However, my work system is already on a LAN. While I don't *need* access to the other nodes on that LAN, I wouldn't mind. From the LAN Distance docs, the problem seems to be that when using the version of LAN Distance Remote that comes with Warp, I will have to reconfigure the work system using the LAN Distance Shuttle option to disconnect it from the work LAN and configure it as a dial-in Remote workstation. Since I typically don't know when I will want to access the work system from home, I would much rather be able to connect to it without having to have previously shuttled it from the lan to a remote configuration. According to the LAN Distance docs, a "LAN Distance Connection Server" equipped system can connect to both a dial-up remote workstation and a LAN. If not real expensive, this sounds ideal. I looked around Indelible Blue's web site for info on LDCS, but didn't see it listed for sale. Is LDCS available only with Warp Server? If not, must one get this straight from IBM? Is there a better (i.e. less expensive) way to do what I'm wanting? --- GoldED/2 2.42.G1219+ * Origin: Graffiti on the BBS Wall/2 (1:233/17) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 207 OS2 LAN Ref: EG300000 Date: 11/30/97 From: WILLIAM GEIGER Time: 11:12am \/To: EDDIE FOWLKES (Read 1 times) Subj: os2 to DOS Hi Eddie Fowlkes, Yes it's me again 23-Nov-97 15:42:24, Eddie Fowlkes wrote to All Subject: os2 to DOS EF> I am hooking an old (BUT GOOD) 286 to my file and print client, at EF> least I'm trying. Anyone ever used this MS Client before Well Long, Long ago I tried using the MS Workgroups for DOS (I think that's what it was called) which allowed a dos machine to be a peer in a WFW network. Total Crap. I was trying to do the same thing you were, set up an old 286 as a print server. I go the thing to install and connect but if someone sent a print job to the queue while a message was being printed from a different machine the queue would lockup. From my past experiance it is not worth the effort screwing around with these old DOS machines. The software is no longer supported (unless it's win9x/NT don't expect any help from M$). Correct, they add nothing to the above. If their like the boot proms I used a few years back, they give you the option to boot from a Novell server, or from the hard disk. If you have a Novell server on line you could boot from it to DOS. They were nice for diskless workstations and DOS programs, but in a GUI world I feel there would be to much bandwidth for anything but a very small network or at least a 100meg network. If I select Install New Port, it tells me all ports are already installed. What am I missing here?
