My NIC is a NE1500T compatible, and is as such supported right out of the box by the NetWare Client. Basically, I have two machines at home and I want to network them together. I put network cards in both and set up everything that seemed appropriate in MPTS and TCP/IP(LAN). I've read through the online documentation. However, when I do a PING, it successfully pings itself, but not the other machine. Both machines do this. I verified my connection (BNC to each card--terminator on one end of each tee). I have no idea why the machines can't see each other, and the trouble-shooting tips related to this in the on-line help don't apply to my situation. Help! Eventually, I'd like to be able to access disks on both machines and have one machine use the other's printers and other devices. Is there any good single source that steps a new user through this process? Thanks for any help. I don't really see the load as such on the BBS nodes unless some fool scans every message base for personal mail. Why someone would scan a couple gigabytes of Usenet (msgs to ALL) for personal mail is beyond me. Why a sysop would allow it is beyond me except I haven't found how to not have it scan those bases. Anyway, that seems to be the only time the system gets nailed and that only because the disk IO channel gets saturated scanning gigs of data. Good OS2 native BBS software will hardly make a burp on any CPU monitor. Consider going native on a single box and doing what I did for drive space, I took a second tower case and it has all my SCSI hard drives in it so that case stays powered while I do maintenance on the main tower. Between the two cases I have 11 5.25" half ht exposed, 1 5.25" half ht internal, 8 3.5" internal and 2 3.5" fdd external. I will be adding a third tower soon that will hold a half dozen CD ROM drives. But, anyway, as I understand things, Warp4 peer will talk to Lantastic and I believe that Lantastic for OS2 will do what you want directly but check the peer stuff first. I just think you will be disappointed using 386s especially if you start mucking with dos and MSCDEX and network drivers and trying to get peer software loaded and still have enough space for the BBS and doors. It really just isn't worth it anymore. Dave Calafrancesco, Team OS/2 dave@drakkar.mhv.net ... What TCP/IP addresses did you FS> assign? What is in your %ect%HOST file? I figured out the problem last night. I was making the false assumption that if I could ping myself, the network adapter was working. It turns out that I didn't have the IRQ and address configured on my non-PnP computer, since I didn't run the correct configuration utility. Once I got that set up, everything else worked. So my next step is to play with File and Print Client. I did run into another problem today though. I frequently set up a dial-up connection to work for FTP and Web access. However, today it didn't seem to want to find the server machine at work. When I brought up DOIP to dial in, it gave me a message about not being able to access my LAN while the Dial-Up facility was running. What functionality won't I be able to use, and is there any way around it? I didn't have my PnP card in my 486 configured correctly. Once I ran the right config program, everything else worked like a charm. I used the custom install, which seemed to work fine for TCP/IP installation, but a program would consistently trap when trying to install File and Print client (I already had it installed from before, but I accidentally deleted stuff out of the NSC directory and I wanted to start over). I also didn't have any Network objects in the Connections folder. I discovered that if I went to FnP Install/Remove and removed the Fnp Client, then did a network selective reinstall, it got through the installation with no problems. It even created the objects in the Connections folder. So now I'm up and running, and the next step is to play with the functionality. I've been able to FTP between the two machines, but I haven't tried FnP yet. I also need to figure out why I couldn't access the machines at work when I dialed up. It waw working last night!
