No idea how to handle that. I don't do REXX here because I have seen evidence that the REXX sleep function is more processor intensive than the wait for keyboard input of 4OS2 and is also a billion times more difficult to interrupt or trigger earlier. Instead I use the following type of code all over the place on this system: :toploop if exist %ramdrv\midnight.flg goto midnight if exist %ramdrv\weekly.flg goto weekly if exist %ramdrv\moremail.flg goto process if exist %bbsdir\logs\echotoss.log goto process inkey /w60 "QF " Waiting for moremail.flg. loop # %aftmail_loop %%return if '%return' == 'F' goto Process if '%return' == 'Q' goto eof set aftmail_loop=%@inc[%aftmail_loop] goto toploop Essentially it will detect semephore files left in the %ramdrv% directory as set in the config.sys (that way when I move that directory around I only have to make a single edit to move it for all the software) After the 60 second wait it will fall through the tests and cycle to toploop where it will detect the presence of any of the flags and process. JC> Rexec from a windoze machine? Is that possible? With a right and proper IP stack you should have no problem. I have no clue never having set IP up in windows 3x. SS> Are you saying that you left it in PnP mode and it worked? No. This card is definitively from before anybody ever thought of PnP, and I explicitely set the IO to 300 and IRQ to 10 in the Etherdisk (because I use it with FreeBSD and Linux as well and using the values which are expected usually removes several sources of confusion). The point was that after doing a full installation again of Warp [1], with an easy network install, my card was detected without a hinch, and the Peer to Peer service installed without a single hickup[2]. I tried very hard to look for somewhere to set the IO address and IRQ but to no avail. Apparently this is not possible with the new Warp 4 drivers, as opposed to the Warp 3 connect drivers?!? [1] New machine. Full reinstalls are easier that fiddling with single programs until the basic stuff works -- especially because the Selective Install for Networking apparently is somewhat buggy. All this is in the UK-version of Warp 4. [2] Note that in order to have SAMBA working you MUST install Netbios over TCP/IP as an additional protocol on the network card, and maybe even list the sambahost in the hosts table but that shouldn't be neccesary if you have a functioning DNS server configured. The only program which did this reliably was the normal installation program - selective install gave me tons of problems :-( Hope this helps, Regards, Thorbjoern --- GoldED/386 2.50 UNREG * Origin: ravn@dit.ou.dk (2:237/11.64) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 207 OS2 LAN Ref: E4T00000 Date: 04/21/97 From: WAYNE SIEMUND Time: 11:57am \/To: PAT BEAVEN (Read 2 times) Subj: non-connect Warp 3 -=> Quoting Pat Beaven to Wayne Siemund <=- PB> Answering a msg of <16 Apr 97>, from Wayne Siemund to All: PB> To use warp 3.0 non connect version you must only use a client... AB> Will a SMP version of OS/2 work with just one CPU or will it have to AB> have two or more? I would like to start out with this from the AB> beginning if at all possible to avoid changes down the road. There is some confusion as to the state of OS/2 Warp SMP. This is in part because of a rumour that has spread out of hand. The facts are that OS/2 Warp Advanced Server version 3.0 is available in an SMP version, and all other versions of OS/2 Warp (i.e. OS/2 Warp 4.0 or OS/2 Warp Entry Server) are not. IBM has stated its intention to provide OS/2 Warp Advanced Server version 4.1 in _only_ the SMP flavour. It seems that IBM, like Microsoft with Windows and Novell with Netware, thinks that SMP is still the province of file servers and other high-end fault-tolerant applications, and doesn't appreciate the growing market of people who want SMP for the CPU performance alone (although many people are new to the whole idea and do have unrealistic expectations of how much of a performance improvement SMP can provide -- even theoretically, it is nowhere near 100% for the second CPU.). Of course, many people, including me, would like to see _all_ versions of OS/2 Warp capable of SMP. If this includes you, I strongly suggest that you get on to the IBM customer support fora on CompuServe and make noises. IBM doesn't monitor FidoNet, and doesn't really have an official Usenet presence, either (although you may find IBM employees there with their "private citizen" hats on).
