Both Warp 3.0 Connect and Warp 4.0 (Merlin) include drivers for the 3C509 Etherlink III card (TP or Combo). Configuration: easy, however observe the following hints: - most setups work fine with the IRQ set to 11 and I/O address set to 300 unless you have other hardware in that area - then it is easy to change via the software setup program included with the card. - set the modem speed to either 9600 or none if you experience a 'cable problem' error message. - disable plug-n-play on the newer 3C509B cards. MF> 3COM Etherlink III (3c509tp) 16bit ISA MF> Is this supported under OS/2 and if not anyone tell me if they run MF> well under OS/2. Hard to configure? Working fine here under Warp Connect/FP22. It's LAN'd to a Linux machine running the same card, as well as an NT 4.0 Server machine also running that same card. Here's what you want to do: Boot to DOS or a DOS floppy and run the 3C5X9CFG.EXE that's on the floppy. Don't run MENU.EXE, run 3C5X9CFG.EXE. Make sure PnP is OFF, and that you EXPLICITLY tell it which transceiver type to use (BNC in my case). For some reason, the AutoDetect is not reliable, and this is the case in DOS as well as Winders. (it's a known problem with these cards, 3Com tells me). Select AutoConfigure and let the card configure itself. If you see it change any of the values you just changed revert back, correct them and save it to the adapter. Leave the modem speed to 9600 in the config. Then install your other software as normal, noting the IRQ that the 3Com configuration told you the card was on (IRQ10 in my case, and 11 on the NT machine), and then it should install correctly. It took me a little fighting to get all the right protocols bound to it, but it's working fine now... Email me if you have troubles... -The Visionary visionary@brazerko.com ... Warp 4 has the equivalent (or better) LS 4.0 client code in it, as well as the server administration software, in _addition_ to its peer capabilities. Warp 3.0 Connect can be used as a LS 4.0 client (with its included software), or as a peer server (with its included software), but not both as a peer and as a client capable of administering a LS server machine at the same time. Warp 4 does not have the server software, and neither does Warp 3 Connect. Warp 4 can work as a peer at the same time as a LAN Server or Warp Server client with administration capabilities. DV> out. The basic question that a number of us have here is does DV> Warp 4 completely replace LAN Server 4.0? If not, why am I getting DV> serious conflicts when installing both of them? No, Warp 4 does not completely replace LAN Server 4.0. However, as I stated above, the client software in Warp 4 can completely replace the client software supplied with LAN Server 4.0 (5.0 as well). DV> A better DV> question: what networking capabilities, if any, are missing from Warp DV> 4 that are in LAN Server? The 'domain controller' and 'additional server' type networking capabilities are not in Warp 4 - just client software with admin tools, and peer software. If you wanted to, you could use Warp 4 as a 'server' for a small number of workstations; in fact I do just that in one installation where there are only 3 clients and the use of Warp Server or LAN Server was not justifiable. All password changes have to be done both on the client and the server at the same time. One other problem that I am having is that when I try to install the netware client so I can attach to a small 3.12 server that I have running, everything seems to go fine at first. I start the network install, answer it's questions and then it reboots. It comes up and start's it install. This time it is successful in doing what it wants to do and then reboots again. This time it appears as thought it is trying to install the main portion of the software and in the backround, I get an error that it can't run NPNWINST.EXE do to not enough stack space. Because of this, soemthing doesn't completely install. Everything errors out in the config.sys and I have not netware folder. Anyone seen this before? I tried taking everything out of the startup folder just to make sure that nothing would interfere. BTW, my system is a 486 DX2 80 with 16 megs. of RAM and more than enough hard drive space.
