Bill, What 'compatibility' problems have you heard?? I have 4.0 able to see my 3.12 server fine.. Took a bit of head scratchin, but I got it.. Read / write access.. I've gota hit the book stores to try to find a book for Warps network stuff, the O/L doc's leave A LOT to be desired in my HO.. :} I'm gona try putting 4.1 under OS/2 4.0 to see if it works better then under Warp 3.0.. The latter was kinda flakey for me, but it may have been something in my h-ware or my configuring.. I know 16 meg was kinda lite for this & dont know if 4.0 will be any different.. *** Quoting Bill Arlofski to All dated 11-12-96 *** > you point me in the direction of a fix to allow me to upgrade at least > semi-painlessly? As with any software changes, I recomend 2 full backups.. :} My upgrade didnt go very well, & I lost my desktop & Win-OS2 stuff.. It may have been a memory problem that caused this.. Gona restore after the 4.1 install & try again.. Rich I-Net turtil@ny.frontiercomm.net ... If money talks, Being a SysOp is pretty quiet! --- GEcho 1.00 * Origin: Turtil's Pond BBS. In addition, I connect drives from a few machines using NetBIOS over TCP/IP. Basically, the LAN works well, but there's a few annoying little issues I'd like to improve on. Firstly, when I connect drives, OS/2 takes a long time (a minute or more after logon before establishing the connection, regardless of the OS the machine sharing is running). Secondly, if a share is unavailable when I logon (e.g. modem link was down at the time, or a server wasn't turned on), then OS/2 doesn't attempt to reconnect the drive at a later stage. Is there any way to make Warp Connect attempt to re-establish the connection when the network drive is accessed (in other words, have it behave more like Windows 95)? Finally, I'm having a problem with browsing. The Windows 95 machine doesn't see the OS/2 box, and the OS/2 box doesn't see the Samba server. FYI, the Samba machine is set up as the master browser, since it's the main gateway for the modem link. Any ideas on this one? ... Use the Peer folder, or use 'NET ACCESS ...'. If you are logged on with an admin level name/password, then the permissions are irrelevant anyways. MM> I think so! I have logical drives E:\ on both machines, but my E: You can continue to access those drives as E: on those machines locally even though they are shared. Two machines - call them machine1 and machine2. They both have logical drive letters up to E:. Let's set up sharenames for both drives. On machine1: net share drive-e=E:\ On machine2: net share drv-e=E:\ (note you can use the same share name 'drive-e' on both or you can use different ones - up to you. We will go to machine1 and make a connection to E: on machine2. On machine1: net use W: \\machine2\drv-e Now on machine1 we can use drive W: which is actually E: on machine2. Instead of using W:, we could have used any drive letter beyond the last logical drive present so we could use any letter from F: to Z:. You can not replace a physical/logical drive (E: in case) with a network assignment. We will go to machine2 and make a connection to E: on machine1. On machine2: net use P: \\machine1\drive-e Again, we can use any letter from F: to Z:. You can make a connection to the same machine that you are working on. On machine1: net use Q: \\machine1\drive-e ..... Scenario: I want to use the same network drive letters on both machines and end up accessing the same logical drive no matter which machine I am on. machine1: net share drive-c=C:\ net share drive-d=D:\ net share drive-e=E:\ machine2: net share drive-c=C:\ net share drive-d=D:\ net share drive-e=E:\ (note: here I am using the same names on both machines - no matter since we refer to them with the machine name prefix added) machine1: net use P: \\machine1\drive-c net use Q: \\machine1\drive-d net use R: \\machine1\drive-e net use S: \\machine2\drive-c net use T: \\machine2\drive-d net use U: \\machine2\drive-e machine2: net use P: \\machine1\drive-c net use Q: \\machine1\drive-d net use R: \\machine1\drive-e net use S: \\machine2\drive-c net use T: \\machine2\drive-d net use U: \\machine2\drive-e Now, no matter which machine I am on, P: drive is always the same drive. Same for drives Q; thru U:. You can continue to use logical drives C: thru E: on both machines as usual.
