This does of course change if you start breaking the line to put tee's in for more computers. But 100 feet is well within specs. see ya Chris ... I only ever used the MS one, because the IBM one was payware. They may be different. The MS offering gives you the alternative of installing "basic" or "advanced" versions. The basic version is pretty cut down, but is quite functional (there are limitations like only one protocol, etc etc). Try zipping it up and see what happens. If any DLL's are in use, then an error message will come up when trying to delete file. There are also several directories with log files in it. I presume that this directory will be used again when you install/reinstall Warp code. SB> Second General Question: SB> \MUGLIB... Is this necessary to keep on the boot drive for some SB> reason? I'd much prefer to have it off on my data/apps drive, and SB> move the swapper back to my boot drive. I think it has to remain on the boot drive. It is only 600K of files so it should not bother you that much, and I doubt that will make much difference in the case of a 8-16MB swap file. Your swap file ideally should be on the least used drive with the largest amount of free space. Documentation is very sketchy or non existent SD> on both the client (NT) end and the Server end (IBM). Has anyone had SD> any success doing this? Thanks for your time & help. I have not yet installed a NT workstation, however, I will in the next few months. Based on what I know of Microsoft machines, I can offer the following suggestions: 1) Use the same name for the domain (on the server) and the workgroup (is that what NT calls it?). 2) Try using straightforward names to start with - ie 4 to 8 alphabetic characters and don't start with a number - when setting up domain/workgroup names, user names, and passwords. 3) Set up a logon name and password on the server, and then use the same logon name and password when setting up the NT workstation. 4) You may not see the server resources when browsing from the NT workstation. However, you should be able to connect to the server resources directly by resource name (not alias name). For example: NET USE X: \\SERVER1\DIR3 where SERVER1 is the name of the server and DIR3 is the actual name of the shared server resource. 5) You will not be able to get the automatic logon assignments as defined for the user on the server. You will have to do them explicitly using the NET USE command. 6) I do not know if you are able to specify a new password if your user password expires on the server. Try it - if not, then you will have to set that user password to not expire (by making it 'optional' if I recall correctly), and change it manually when required/desired. Hello Frank, Replying to a message of Frank Sexton to All: FS> I've just purchased a coupla 3Com Ethernet cards and intend FS> on hooking up my two machines using W4.0. I'm planning on FS> using RG58 Thin LAN cable. Is a 100 foot run okay between FS> the machines? If you use good quality cables and connectors (ie gold plated), you should be able to go up to 200 metres (I believe that is where the 2 comes from in 10Base2 coax cabling) from end to end (terminator to terminator). That works out to about 600 feet. The actual end-to-end length will be dependent on the number of T-connectors present in the cable segment. I have used up to six 50 foot cable lengths during one installation for seven workstations. BTW, ground one (and one only) of the terminators on the coax cable. If you ever switch to twisted pair cabling (10BaseT) and a twisted pair hub/concentrator, the maximum length for a single cable is 100 metres (end to end).
