Doom Finds me from my kids DOS machine, but the OS/2 Machine just sits there looking for and IPX connection. I am running novell lite on the kids machine, I did include the 802.3 frame on the OS/2 side. The Dos for installing novell with Warp Connect really stink. JD> Is this the literal truth, or is the Warp Server file & print services JD> kernel faster than Connect? Not even close to truth. Warp Server flies when compared to Connect. I speak from experience, as I've had Connect on this same machine that I use with Warp Server Advanced right now. In Warp Server the network stuff is integrated much more deeply into OS/2 and it's much more reliable than Connect. --- GoldED/2 * Origin: ... only a hobby, it's only a hobby, it's ... Needless to say .RE> I don't know squat about networking; so, any feedback regarding NIC's .RE> or the configuration or performance of IBM Peer would be greatly .RE> appreciated! I was in much the same position as you Roger. I needed to connect two OS/2 machine and one Win-4-WGropus. I just bought two Eagle NE200+ cards as they were specifically mentioned in the Warp-Connect broucher and used a old Artisoft NodeRunner put into "NE200-compatible" mode in the Win4WG machine. Then I just popped the CONNECT CD in one machine and let it do its stuff. Then followed the instructions and built the two special diskettes for a "remote" installation, used them on the second OS/2 machine with the CD still in the first OS/2 machine, clicked on the "remote install" on the first machine and followed the basically "idiot proof" instructions (I did it so they really must have been idot-proof!). I had to go onto the Win machine to change the name of the server or something, can't recall just what, and everything worked perfectly! I was really amazed, especially by the "remote install" as I only have one CD. Oh, a VERY big problem at the start. I could NOT get the remote to install at all until I totally removed the IBM MultiMediaModem card along with all of its software and device drivers, from the main OS/2 machine! No matter how much IBM claims to the contary, the IBM MultiMediaModem is not OS/2 compatible! I finally gave up on the IBM MultiMediaModem and went and bought a true SB card for about one quater of the price; it works fine. So much for IBM supporting OS/2! I need to be able to connect to the LAN at work and use the file and mail servers, and possibly one of the networked Laserjet 4s. The Windows users connect via a SHIVA dial-in (mostly generic PPP with some automatic login capability). What do I need in the way of software to connect in this way? I'm assuming that the IAK dial other providers program will make the PPP connection without any trouble, but what do I need from there to handle the necessary network services. I've seen a Novell OS/2 2.11 client on hobbes, but I don't know if it's current, and wouldn't have a clue about what to set up anyway. I'd be really grateful if anybody could tell me what to use and how to set it up, thanks Bye, Michael! --- FleetStreet 1.17 NR * Origin: Montgomery's Rapidly Vanishing Point (1:375/14.903) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 207 OS2 LAN Ref: DCU00002 Date: 08/23/96 From: CHRIS WOLCOTT Time: 04:41pm \/To: LEWIN EDWARDS (Read 2 times) Subj: FAQ on tcp/ip and dialup connections I have done what your trying to do. PLEASE NOTE: You CAN NOT get your 'Virtual IP' machines to work on the net. They may get out, but the data will not be able to be routed back, as your numbers are 'invalid'. Try a SOCKS SERVER to do this or get assigned numbers. What I did to get my modem machine out to the INET while using Virtual IP inside is the following: In TCP/IP setup I enabled the LOOPBACK INTERFACE. This creates a 'Virtual LAN' inside your PC consisting of just your PC. You can do this on all your PCS. (Not sure if this is REQUIRED, but I read it should always be done...) In the ROUTING page I added the ISP's DNS after the local LAN's DNS. If your not using a DNS, add the ISP DNS then enble the USE HOSTNAMES BEFORE CHECKING DNS checkbox (Second page, I think). I belive this will take care of your problem. --- Maximus/2 3.01 * Origin: The OUTER LIMITS: Another BBS proudly running OS/2 WARP!
