The IBM OS/2 Virtual Lan Kernal could not attach to the FFST/2 device driver EPWDD.SYS. Also the stock drivers on CD-ROM and the setup diskette which came with my net card were of no use. I found a National Semiconductor driver via internet news, I believe I found it on comp.os2.setup.network or so. The card is a NE2000 clone which I had operating as a peer network with Win95 stock drivers and no problems. But OS/2 Warp Server is newer and stock drivers could not be used, it took me serveral days and many long nights before I got the network up and running. The drivers used, said the individual obtain it from National Semiconductors BBS, I would like to know their phone number to that bbs for reference. I am using NS2000.NIF and NS2000.OS2 with now my daughters machine can see and use my server and most important print using printer attached to the server. My six year old daughter didn't understand that running OS/2 red spine that I had to shutdown and boot WIN95 for here to use printer. Now everyone is happy, I use OS/2, she uses WIN95 plays games and occasionally prints. I now have only OS/2 installed on my machine and WIN95 on hers. I created resources and shared them and user accounts just fine and the system works but FFST/2 not being attached at boot up bugs me to see this line popup at bootup, boot up process doesn't not stop as with other errors which prompt you to hit the enter key. --- X KWQ/2 1.2i X If at first you don't succeed, put out another version (KWQ 1.2i) --- Maximus/2 2.02 * Origin: OS/2 Shareware BBS, telnet://bbs.os2bbs.com (1:109/347) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 207 OS2 LAN Ref: DBG00005 Date: 07/11/96 From: JOCELYN DOIRE Time: 11:02pm \/To: MIKE BILOW (Read 1 times) Subj: Connect won't install... I have Lantastic for OS/2 > installed, because I couldn't figure out Warp Connect's own networking. Scrap Lantastic... Use IBM Peer, it's much easier, and faster network speed as well... Also, for com port sharing you must use Warp Connect on all your machines, with Peer loaded on all machines... then sharing a com port is as easy as sharing a hard drive or printer... Trying to cross platforms though, ie, win '95 -> warp connect -> NT, for com ports, good luck... :) -- Mack --- TRWMail v3 * Origin: [T]he [R]eal [W]orld BBS - OS/2 - Washington State (1:350/36) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 207 OS2 LAN Ref: DBH00002 Date: 07/12/96 From: MIKE BILOW Time: 03:31pm \/To: JOCELYN DOIRE (Read 1 times) Subj: Connect won't install... All three RC> computers will need to share resources. Any suggestions? If you don't need too much in the way of security and don't need the DOS machines to act as servers, you can install OS/2 Peer (which is included with OS/2 Warp Connect) as the peer server and use the free Microsoft Client for DOS on each DOS machine. This allows using NetBIOS either over NetBEUI or over TCP/IP ("TCPBEUI"). These protocols are also interoperable with Windows for Workgroups, Windows 95, and Windows NT. If you want the DOS machines to act as servers, you can buy the Microsoft Workgroup Add-On for DOS for about $50 a copy. It is an enhancement of the free Microsoft Client for DOS that adds peer server capability. I really do not recommend this, however. Another option if you need the DOS machines to act as servers, you can buy Lantastic for DOS and Lantastic for OS/2. This is a significantly more expensive option, but it would demand less hardware resources than OS/2 Peer. If you need serious security, you should look at OS/2 Warp Server instead of OS/2 Warp Connect. It is a full network server system that competes with Windows NT and Novell NetWare. -- Mike --- * Origin: N1BEE BBS +1 401 944 8498 V.34/V.FC/V.32bis/HST16.8 (1:323/107)
