Well, I think I owe the echo an apology. On trying to reproduce the sharing, I find I can't do it. I was sure we had it working previously. Perhaps we did, earlier we were using NTWS 3.51 (no ServicePacks), and now we are using NTS 3.51 w/ SP4. So maybe something has changed. At any rate the NT machine can see the shared modem on the Warp Connect system, and can see that it is Type "Comm", but can't make use of it. Attempting to NET USE the resource produces an error message something like "unknown resource type". IT> With Warp Connect you may share out whatever you want, IT> restricted by your own rules. Really nice! Yes, I'm quite pleased with Connect's networking abilities. RAM req's are quite high for simple peer services, but it works very well, and when you need the advanced features like com port sharing and user-level access control, it comes through for you. --- * Origin: Starship Heart of Gold - Edmonton, AB [403]489-1735 (1:342/42) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 207 OS2 LAN Ref: DAB00008 Date: 06/07/96 From: NEAL NEWMAN Time: 12:20pm \/To: DARRYL PIERCE (Read 1 times) Subj: DOS COMMUNICATING WITH TC -> The TCP/IP support is under OS/2 Warp Connect, it's not stand-alone -> DOS. Now I'm going to try to set up my home office with ethernet, and I was wondering if any of you have had positive experiences using inexpensive ethernet cards with Warp Connect peer services. I have a couple of Accton cards, but they're not on the supported list, nor is there an entry for a generic NE2000-type 16-bit ethernet card. Obviously, I'm trying to be cheap about this at this point. I may have to give up and get one of the supported cards, but I was hoping to hear of a miser's workaround. ___ X SLMR 2.1a X Computer Mercenaries, S.S., MD. I think you probably want to install the base OS with the networking support. I did when I upgraded from WARP to WARP Connect. I think the networking support is intergrated into the base OS. Plus in my case WARP Connect was the equivalent of plain WARP with 2 patch levels. Hope this helps.
