Hi Brian, BL> I'm giving serious consideration to making the switch from osr2/Win95b o BL> nt workstation 4.0. I've heard there is some kind of program that checks BL> your hardware to see if it's up to the challenge (read compatible) but I BL> can't find anything specific or a URL to track down a copy. Anybody know BL> if this exists and if so where I could find a copy?? I don't know that program, but in general you should not worry about compatibility since NT is very good in that. Unless you would have some exotic type of hardware of course :-) (like very special SCSI-cards). Also, I would advise you to install NT in multi-boot since games and such don't run very smoothly under NT, yet. This happens GS>consistently, on both of my GS>machines, and I've also seen it on others. Is there a solution to this GS>drop to DOS 7.10, the free space is reported correctly and all BIOS set GS>are correct for the drives. Even w. Win95B, the default is to use FAT16, which cannot handle drive partitions larger than 2 gigs... have you explicitly installed FAT32? If not, you are using FAT16. (You can confirm this by right-clicking on your C: icon in MyComputer/Explorer, and choosing Properties from the popup menu... it will say: Local Drive (FAT32) if FAT32 is installed). You can use Win95B's FDISK to convert from FAT16 to FAT32, but it will destroy your drive's contents in the process. A better solution is to purchase PowerQuest's Partition Magic, or wait for Win98, both of which offer non-destructive conversions. _______________ Internet mail to: azisman@rogers.wave.ca Win95 FAQ at: http://home.bc.rogers.wave.ca/azisman/faq95.htm ___ * WR 1.31 # 126 * --- Maximus 2.01wb * Origin: Basic'ly Computers: Mooo-ing Right Along.
