It doesn't cache the Domain User data base with CH> users and pw's that have been accessing the Wks resources. Even if the userid's are the same, a domain account and a local account use different security identifiers. Without some type of privs, or modifications to the workstation's permissions, and assuming you're using roaming profiles, not mandatory ones, the doman account and local account will not share the same profile. Basically, if a DC is not available, you're hosed until it comes up. framsey@goodyear.com; frank.ramsey@fallsbbs.com;CNA;CNE;MCSE;PE --- EZPoint V2.2 * Origin: -- A Point on Pine Lake (330)-796-3146 -- (1:157/603.70) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 206 WINDOWS 32BIT Ref: EFL00004 Date: 11/16/97 From: JERRY SCHWARTZ Time: 04:49pm \/To: HECTOR SANTOS (Read 3 times) Subj: RE: NT's FTP without prompting? I build workstations with Ghost and will be setting up a WINS server and DHCP and it sure would be nice to have a util that would automate machine names creation. It could even be a MAC address since there is little reason in a school environment to easily identify a workstation by location. How do people track machine names in a large organization? We use the asset tag number of the machine, prefixed with NP, which is the company name's abbreviation. So NP01025 would be a valid machine name.
