The DRM-602X CD-Changer is NOT supported under Windows NT! it isn't on the HCL and you might have problems with the system locking up. I had a long service request with MS about this. I suggest that you add at least one CD-ROM drive for software installation in case the DRM-602x gives rouble. The symptoms are: All slots are scanned during the boot phase, then again when you start the explorer, scsi bus resets occur during the scan and machine hangs in explorer. If this happens then you have two possible solutions: 1) scrap the DRM-602x or 2) disable the cdrom.sys driver. None, NT 4.0 will run without service packs under most circumstances, but it is advisable to install service pack 3. TT>5> Once I get everything running, what's a good study path to TT>head down on the way to professional certification? What TT>certification titles am I looking for? MSCE? MSCP? It depends what you intend to do with it. MCP and MCSE are certainly worth doing just because of the experience and the knowledge gained but very expensive to keep up because MS changes the requirements every few months. I can give you a tip how you can save some money: The Windows NT 4.0 Technical Traing Self-Study course from MS-Press can be used to prepare for the Windows NT 4.0 certification exams and comes with a time-limited version of Windows NT 4.0 Workstation and Windows NT 4.0 Server. You could use this to learn and gain experience with Windows NT at relatively low cost ( < $200 ). WSLI> Regular 2.60 Win32s. "Regular" 16 bit Binkley 2.60 doesn't use a sound card. Win32 Binkley 2.60 will use the sound card. Win32s is 32 bit exensions for 16 bit windows, of which neither 32 bit or 16 bit Binkley uses. I now know that you are using Binkley 2.60, but are you using the 16 bit (doesn't use sound card) or are you using the 32 bit (does use sound card) version of Binkley 2.60? Like I said, the 32 bit version of binkley 2.60 works just fine on my Windows 95 system. I'm using a Creative Labs AWE64 sound card, but have also used it with an AWE32 and SB16 sound card just fine. --- Maximus/NT 3.01b1 * Origin: Cowboy Country USA! Au contrare. IBM loaded Windows and OS/2 together for quite a long time on their machines with option to select. I can assure you that Microsoft was not "making" them load it on their machines. They would have sold fewer machines if they had not supported Windows. I'd rather not install an MS client unless we decide to also use DHCP. I wonder if there is a way to just point to a Novell user directory when looking for a profile ...... hmmmm have to read some more. The policy editor option to "not save settings" does not remove shortcuts after each use. I'n not really sure what it does. I can't help you with your question as I have never tried to overcome the same situation, but I can give you some information how (some) training institutes solve the problem. Because students (any age) are the most disciplined of all users , they reformat the harddisk and install the machine fresh using some automated procedure. Most of the instructors I have spoken with have some organization they way the machines are configured and setup and then use a boot floppy with an automated setup procedure that needs one parameter (machine name). The procedure has been setup to provide all information needed to install the machine from scratch using the network setup procedures. Unfortunately they never told me how they wrote the batch procedure and I know that each one developed it's own.
