CH> CS> I'm running NT 4.0 on my system, and I have 3 other CH> CS> machines linked to this one on a TCP/IP network. Or do I have CH> CS> to change the networking protocol to IPX or NetBEUI to CH> CS> be able to have the Internet access? CH> Nope, you don't have to change as Windows NT and Win95's dialup CH> network will work fine. Goodie! :) CH> You do want to review your security on every computer in the LAN CH> though Christer. The spooks are continually looking for and CH> finding security holes in Windows NT/95 networking. Don't run any CH> shares with "world" or "guest" and password protect everything, I have no guest accounts, so that should be okay. And everything is double password protected. I just don't understand why people call me paranoid... :) CH> especailly on the one you are dialing into with. Be sure you have CH> your NTFS security set up well. Yep, looks okay. CH> I purposely run IPX on my LAN and only use TCP with the internet. CH> The biggest reason is that TCP isn't near as fast on a LAN as IPX CH> is. If you don't need TCP, then don't run it as you will get CH> better LAN performance without it. Really? I'll try that, then. CH> There would be some security benifit in not running TCP on your CH> LAN as compared to IPX. That could keep an internet goon out of CH> your computers on the rest of the LAN, but is a very small risk CH> anyway. My reason for using IPX instead of TCP on the LAN is CH> performance. I see. I'll try IPX on my LAN, and see what happens.
