Netscape's proxy server can cache documents for a specified amount of time, ban users from a certain site (the official guide has www.microsoft.com as the example for this one), etc. It's quite useful. --- * Origin: C>N>>K (1:130/911.1008) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 206 WINDOWS 32BIT Ref: EAY00009 Date: 06/25/97 From: RICK PALI Time: 01:08am \/To: CHRISTER SOLSTRAND (Read 5 times) Subj: Long file name backu 24 Jun 97 17:48, Christer Solstrand wrote to Frank Ramsey: FR> FR=>> Anyone got a program that backups long file names to a MW> FR> FR=>> file that you'd care endorse? We've carefully looked at our LAN environments (since my background is really networking) and found that our reliability is pretty igh now. A few things we found which caused problems were network drivers, low quality network cards and insufficient buffering on the drivers. The other problem is open files but this happens on local backups too. For this we ave found two solutions. First the Enterprise version of BackUpExec will backup the files or you can use the OpenFile Manager product, which is a little more robust in this area. We've got DLT tape drives running off of NT with a very high sucess rate for backups but we also have a few hundred workstations making tape drives for each machine impractical (especially the laptops g>).. Just my 2 cents worth...
