You cannot map a shared local resouce CH> with W95 or WFWG. CS> I mapped the C:\COM directory to M: locally as well, CS> instead of substing it, since I couldn't get NT to run CS> the darn SUBST command upon boot. ANyway, now it works CS> PERfectly, so thanks everybody! I have a batch file called startup.bat that I load from my startup folder. In it I have SUBST H: C:\. It works fine. I found that mapping the drive with the net use command or with file manager wasn't all that reliable. That is because it seems to try to map the drive before the all the workstation and server services are loaded. SUBST isn't dependent on those services being loaded, so is 100 percent reliable on startup. I do load a boatload of startup programs and services. CH> Sheesh, glad that exercise is over Stanley! CS> Stanley? I'm a Laurel and Hardy Fan. Sorry about being so slow to recognize what the problem was Christer. --- Maximus/NT 3.01b1 * Origin: 33,600bps Windows NT _Powered_! That may have an affect on what you are trying to accomplish with it o >your network. DHCP is apparently working fine. I got the administrator to look at the IP addresses that were leased on the DHCP server and three of them has "RAS" indicated on them. So apparently the server is assigning them correct--and I'm getting the same IP address when doing a winipcfg /all command. I seem to be having problems now in not getting locked out of the network. Currently I have my RAS client PC at home set up for domain DSDUS (no login to domain) under Control Panel. The RAS server is on domain VBDPC. The checkbox under RAS properties for "logon onto domain" appears to have no affect on my client. It would seem that if I go to the DOS prompt and go to a drive mapped on the VBDPC domain, after a few seconds of waiting for the DIR command to display a directory, I see the volume lable say, "no label" and then the ugly, "access denied" message. My username and passwords are the same on both the DSDUS and VBDPC domains. If I try and access a drive on the DSDUS domain, I get the same result. Usually when I get the "access denied", however, it locks me out of the system on whatever domain I got the message on and disallows me dialin permission on my RAS server! I've dialed in 3 or 4 times in a row and everything works fine, then the next day I can try it, and I'll get locked out! I have no idea why this is happening. I've even gone as far as deleting my *.PWL on the RAS client, just in case its "retrying an old password" over and over, which would be locking me out. No luck there... any ideas?
