Is there any way to redefine keys on a keyboard under Windows NT 4.0? I want to remap the windows keys on my new keyboard, so that when I hit, say, the one with a windows symbol on, I start my offline reader, for example. Do anybody know if this is possible? The free space must be equal to 10% of the total size protected, ie. backup 50 gigs, you must have 5 gigs for logs. framsey@goodyear.com; CIS 71631,1032 - CNE, CNA-4, PE --- EZPoint V2.2 * Origin: -- A Point on Pine Lake (330)-796-3146 -- (1:157/603.70) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 206 WINDOWS 32BIT Ref: E4B00000 Date: 04/06/97 From: ERNIE BOKKELKAMP Time: 07:33am \/To: ROGER HINSON (Read 5 times) Subj: Re: Backup program On 04 Apr 1997 05:15, Roger Hinson (1:202/1318) wrote: RH>> On Thu, Apr. 03, 1997, Frank Ramsey (1:157/603.70) said RH>this: RH>FR>RP> I just noticed a Compaq tape backup unit at work. The throughput on DLT depends very much on the software / hardware / network. The following information was obtained doing througput testing using DLT 4000 drives. Using Seagate (Arcada Backup) to backup over the network: Dual 486DX2/66 about 20MB/Min - 45MB/Min (10/100 Mb/s) Dual P.Pro 166 about 90MB/Min - 120 MB/Min (100 Mb/s) Dual P.Pro 166 about 40MB/Min - 50 MB/Min (10 Mb/s) Using Legato Networker to backup over the network (100 MB/Min) Dual P.Pro 166 about 110 MB/Min per drive, with 3 drives 330 MB/Min. It should be noted that the DLT4000 has a maximum throughput of 90 MB/Min without compression and 180 with compression (2:1). I've spent the last umpteen hours trying to undo what I somehow did. I just upgraded my machine to dual PPro board from a single Pentium chip. All drives stayed the same. I assumed (ASSumed) this would be a direct swap... but NT had other ideas. When I tried to boot the new system, I got the BSOD (ntoskrnl error) every time. I decided it was because NT uses a differnet kernel for SMP so I tried an 'upgrade' from the NT CD. Nope. Then I decided to throw caution to the wind and just reinstall... well, that worked but... while I knew I would lose all my configuration info, I had no idea that every program on the machine would forget THEIR configurations as well! For example, my Word 7 was highly customized (toolbars, macros, etc.)-- All gone-- it's as if I just installed Word. Same for the rest of Office (except Schedule... everything there is intact). Same for about a dozen other programs... all to 'default' settings. Also... the upgrade remembered my RAS dialing directory but it doesn't work. I get to dial and attempt connection to my ISP, but the call is rejected (refused by remote host). You're probably asking where my tape backup is... well, both a 'father' and 'grandfather' backup have an 'error reading tape'!!! I doubt the tapes have errors (??) Anyway, if anyone has any advice other than 1)format, 2)buy a Mac, or 3)get a hammer, it would be greatly appreciated. Oh... my point still works (at least when my bossnode is working) :-) Thanks, Kenneth Hass 1:387/404.27 khass@digitrix.com --- timEd-B9 * Origin: You Are Here: ---> x <--- (MOD. I'm in the process of setting up one of the 20/40GB DLTs at work. In some of my testing I got 85MB/min backing up a locally attached disk on a P166 machine. On the same machine, backing up a network attached drive (16mbps network), I got ~40MB/min. On a DX2-66 machine, a 'loacl' backup ran ~40MB/min :-( Mind you, no matter how you slice it, they are *fast* .
