In most cases, the easiest way to fix a master boot record problem is to boot from an MS-DOS (5.0 or later) floppy that contains FDISK. At the A: prompt, type fdisk /mbr to replace the master boot record. There is no response to this command. Caution: If you use a third-party disk-translation program, do not use Fdisk. Use your third-party utilities instead. This tip originally appeared on the TipWorld web site. Could that be the problem? I don't think the CD-ROM (IDE) interface on a SB32 or AWE32 is supported. At least, I know the PnP cards' IDE adapters will not work with NT. It is indeed looking for it on the primary or secondary controller. I don't know how NT handles tertiary IDE controllers, so if possible it might be wise to move the CD-ROM to one of the first two controllers. ... rtfm (314) 843-1855 ___ Blue Wave/QWK v2.12 --- GEcho/32 1.20/Pro * Origin: rtfm 314.843.1855 (1:100/340) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 206 WINDOWS 32BIT Ref: E3E00012 Date: 03/06/97 From: VINCENT ROBINSON Time: 12:50pm \/To: ROB THIELEN (Rcvd) (Read 6 times) Subj: NT 4.0 CD-ROM SETUP -> Labs IDE 6x Model "CD620E" and the Creative FTP site says the NT 4.0 -> driver for that drive is included with the operating system (NT 4.0). -> The drive has the IDE interface & is connected to a SoundBlaster -> AWE 32 sound card ( using ISA bus slot). Could that be the problem? That might be the catch, it is not the first or second IDE port which may be where NT is looking. I can't get either the Win 3.x or Win95 drivers from Creative to work with my AWE32, the SB1.x/Pro/16 driver in NT 3.51 plays the .wav file well but I miss my audio software. Does Creative have drivers for the AWE32 under NT 3.51 or 4.0? This would solve our problems most likely. I have my IDE HD on my second IDE port and it works well, although if I move up to four HD's (which I have but not yet installed) I'll need to put it on my AWE32 as well. --- HyperMail! v1.22 * Origin: Wizard's Tower/NJSEP BBS--V34+ (908)-473-1933 (1:107/7010) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 206 WINDOWS 32BIT Ref: E3E00013 Date: 03/09/97 From: JEFF GUERDAT Time: 10:08am \/To: DALE ROSS (Read 6 times) Subj: Coud you help me ?
