They use (as described) a DOS utility (VINSTALL/VCONFIG) to set the EEPROM to the values selected... startup mode, 8-bit/16-bit, and target monitor. Then the Windows drivers respond to those settings. Unfortunately, with the exception of one card, which works as advertised, I'm unable to get the others (4-5 of various Wonder vintages and models) to work with more than 256 colours. _______________ Internet mail to: azisman@rogers.wave.ca Win95 FAQ at: http://home.bc.rogers.wave.ca/azisman/faq95.htm ___ * WR 1.31 # 126 * --- Maximus 2.01wb * Origin: Basic'ly Computers: Mooo-ing Right Along. My personal favorite was always the original, freeware, British BackMenu (later versions were shareware without adding much functionality as far as I was concerned)... When set as shell, BackMenu did not appear anywhere... no minimized icon (the shareware versions loaded an icon, which ruined the effect in my opinion). As a result, one could load wallpaper and have an otherwise blank desktop, or no wallpaper, and have a totally blank screen. Or my favorite, Mac desktop wallpaper, and watch people click on the bogus menu bar/Apple menu/etc. in vain. But right-click anywhere on the desktop, and a easily configurable, multi-level menu pops up... which can be set to start up the programs of your choice. Fast, free, and good for confusing people! Who could ask for anything more? (It's been years since I looked for it, so I can't vouch for its location or ZIP name, but if anyone wants a copy, send me an I-net mail message, and I'll attach it). _______________ Internet mail to: azisman@rogers.wave.ca Win95 FAQ at: http://home.bc.rogers.wave.ca/azisman/faq95.htm ___ * WR 1.31 # 126 * --- Maximus 2.01wb * Origin: Basic'ly Computers: Mooo-ing Right Along. What kind of computer is this? If the computer is too old, (386 and lower) windows can't get access to the 32-bit disk-system and you will recieve errors. The HDD you are using may also be un-available in 32-bit mode, so you can't access it. If you have a 386+ and your HDD is compatible with 32bit mode, then I believe it is some software crash, not hardware. And then I don't have any ideas.
